Trying to replace Linux Mint 12 (compatibility issues)

Normally I dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.10, however, I'm more of a Linux Mint person (was my first distro), so I installed it over Ubuntu. However, unlike when it was running off of a live CD, it now doesn't work. The keyboard and mouse don't respond, and the resolution is changed. So I thought...

Re: Wont let me install side by side

The only reason I was keeping Vista was to play games on it, but it's so slow and unresponsive that I can't even play them... So there was no point in keeping Vista. I just fully installed LM10. Thanks anyways.

Wont let me install side by side

I'm trying to dual boot Windows Vista and Linux Mint 10, but when I try installing LM10, I don't get the option to install side by side. I've had no problem doing this with LM8 and LM9 in the past. It only gives me the options for erasing the entire hard drive, or the advanced option. I'd really lik...

Adding brushes to GIMP?

I know how to do this in windows, but in Linux, it's not letting me move the brushes to the brushes folder in GIMP... It says "Error, Permission Denied." Actually, it says this to anything I want to move into a fold that is under "share." Help please? (I've been using Linux since LM8, but I'm still ...

Re: Is there some sort of download manager in Linux Mint

Huh, whenever I use FireFox and I'm downloading something, I can close the window and the Download window will still be open showing the progress. Even when I close the download window, it's still downloading cause when I open up FireFox I can see that it's been downloading. Chromium wont let me do ...

Re: google search in firefox?

Thank you very much, but seeing as the custom search helps pay for the servers, I think 1 or 2 mouse clicks extra aren't that bad for helping out a great distro :)

google search in firefox?

So I was trying to do a quick google search in FireFox using the integrated search options (next to the address bar) while using LM9, and every time I search something it gives me the customized Linux Mint thing. Is there a way to get normal google search instead of the LM customized one? Cause not ...

Re: SwiftKit with wine.

Well, I gave the second method a shot (as I know nothing about source code :(), everything installed and all, so I go to run RuneScape. It still only lets me go to Safe Mode :( I can't use the Software or OpenGL modes at all. Oh well, thanks for all the help though :D

Re: SwiftKit with wine.

OpenGL renderer Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM GEM 20091221 2009Q4 Apparently, this is what I have, and Intel no longer maintains proprietary drivers for linux... Am I screwed? =/ Oh yes, and if it matters, in Vista (same computer), RuneScape ran slowly while using OpenGL, but when I switched down to Softw...

Re: SwiftKit with wine.

Yeah, I'll go check at the SwiftKit forums. Since you've played RuneScape before, I have another question. Have you ever gotten it to work in High Detail on Linux? It has Safe Mode, Software, OpenGL and DirectX to support the graphics I guess. I've tried installing DirectX9 threw winetricks, but it ...

Re: SwiftKit with wine.

RuneScape is in javascript, so you don't install the game itself (you normally play it in your browser). Thanks for helping out :)

Re: SwiftKit with wine.

SwiftKit is a RuneScape client that has features like a built in MP3 player to listen to music, quest guides, calculators, hiscores, and a bunch of other stuff. Here's a link: http://www.zybez.net/swiftkit/ I knew I should have put more info about it, but I just thought it might be a simple problem ...

SwiftKit with wine.

I installed wine, then I ran the swiftkit(install).exe file and it installed just fine. I then tried to run it, but it won't work :( It shows the "Starting SwiftKit" window at the panel, but after it disappears, nothing. Any help? It would be appreciated. PS: I know RuneScape is old and there are ma...

Re: Trying to uninstall.

Well, I used the Recovery Disc and it worked. I had only Vista on there with all 150 gigs set for it. No other OS. But... Then apparently my sister wanted to use Linux... So I installed it completely. That was such a waste. Sorry... But now I know how to restore the computer to it's original factory...

Re: Trying to uninstall.

So, any particularly good way of wiping out the hard drive? The recovery disk should take care of that for you. If you wish to be sure of eliminating every thing prior to starting, use gParted from a LiveCD to delete all of the partitions then use the Recovery Disk. Ah ok. Thanks everyone, I'll do ...

Re: Trying to uninstall.

...then use the recovery disc? I don't want to take any risks of not having Vista on here anymore... As long as it is the Recovery Disc which came with that laptop and there have been no hardware changes. Changing the hard drive should not be a problem as long as the replacement was the same size o...
