There seems to be a big holdup here, but why?? graphical.target @1min 40.792s Are you running Cinnamon? I had just upgraded to Mint Cinnamon 20 (from 19.3), and backed up like a good boy. But I had my portable HDD plugged in when I upgraded, then unplugged it. Mint then spent a minute looking for i...

What's going on here??
My wife and I both have SSDs, and Mint 20 takes almost two minutes. I also boot MX and KDE Neon, and they take 20 seconds max. Re: Sound Not Working only dummy output
I have an Inspiron 570 And I'm having a similar problem. It plays digital things just fine (system sounds, music files playback) but line in and mic in don't work. Yet the VU meter shows input to the line in. (I'm trying to record from a VCR output.) So the input stream is not getting to the output....

Re: [Maybe solved] Mint 17.3 Cinammon Crash after kernel upgrade K4.4.0-109(132)
Previous kernel 4.10.0-42-generic works fine for me.
4.13.0-26-generic gives me the Cinnamon crash, fallback mode, no recognize monitor, goes to 640x480.
I don't remember any previous kernels crashing Cinnamon.... on a regular basis, anyhow.
i'm using nVidia 304.135 driver.

SOLVED: mp3 no sound, plays fast?
 I just solved this problem. I had plugged in an external mic that used an A/D dongle (usb output) and it switched my audio output from speakers to hdmi. Go figure?! I could download flash movies as .webv and play them at regular speed with VLC, with no sound. I changed the audio output fr...

If you have problems with E17 on Mint but want to keep at it, try installing Bodhi Linux. It's also derived from Ubuntu but optimized for Enlightenment.

Comments about finding apps: The Mint Software manager is your first stop, of course. Next place I go to look is Gismo's: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-software-linux.htm Be sure to check their article on tweaks for Cinnamon (or Mate, or Ubuntu). http://www.techsupportalert.com/c...

Re: How to install Burg and Super Boot Manager on Linux Mint
Sadly, Burg is dead. It has not been updated since 2010. :( You can try grub-customizer instead, but I haven't always had good luck with it. It's not in Mint repositories, so you have to do some terminal work. Here's a short instructional tutorial: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/tips-and-tr...

Re: OH DEAR GOD KILL IT WITH FIRE - Deleting Linux Mint Hele
If you're running a truly antique machine (which I doubt, if it runs Vista), try downloading Puppy or Bodhi, burn one to a CD, and try booting from that. Puppy runs happily off the CD, and it's fast because it loads into memory. Bodhi is fast and cool, with its E17 desktop. If neither runs off a CD,...

Re: Dropbox alternative
I extracted it to /home and made folders there, and somehow I clicked on the right thing because I get the icon in the tray, right next to dropbox, and it starts with Mint. I did this a couple times ...still don't know what happened. If anybody out there wants a referral here's mine: https://copy.co...

Re: Mint 13 LTS ideas?
The power consumption thing makes 12 unuseable on my laptop. On Ubuntu12.04 the fan runs half speed, on LM12 it burns my pants. On Bodhi, it runs cool. A minor thing that bothers me is when you install an app, there's no indication that it's done installing (unless you re-search); on Ubuntu you get ...

Re: ideal OS
... laptop power consuming which is kinda a weak point of Mint now... Not to nit-pick, but that's not a Mint problem. It's a Linux problem in general, kernel power management regressions.. I boot LMDE, Ubuntu 11.04, Bodhi and Windows 7 for old time's sake, on a low-end HP laptop. Right now on LMDE ...

Re: dualboot problmes with /home
I have 4 partitions on my laptop because I haven't decided which distro I like yet (and they keep changing), plus I need Windows for those once in a great while moments. So since windows can't read my Linux files, I keep most of my stuff in the Documents folders on Windows. I have my setup files for...

Re: Installation hangs near end-Mint 10 XFCE
I was just fooling with another machine that I've tortured with multiple OS's, and while diddling the start-up manager in Mint Debian it asked me something to the effect of, " Say, I couldn't help noticing that you have a lot of different partitions on here. Would you like to write the same gru...

Re: Installation hangs near end-Mint 10 XFCE
Thanks. I think I need to find how Grub works. UPDATE: I think it was a memory problem, as airscorp suggests. The simple solution was to get a new laptop. HP G62 with 3 GB, $380 from Staples. I have 3 distros on there now, PLUS the original Windows 7. Ten times the memory did wonders. :D In case any...
