Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - October 2012

http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-10312012-105809am.php Simple desktop for a simple computer :-) Themes are Zukitwo for controllers, but slightly older version with tighter menu margins and slightly altered to fit my taste, can't really remember what I changed. The window border theme is ...

Re: Equalizer application for Pulse Audio

If you like ALSA and would like to purge your system from pulseaudio in favor for ALSA, you can have equalizer in ALSA too! Check out my old thread/story/quest to that here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=94877 The reason I switched to ALSA is not only because I had problems w...

Re: Dumped LMDE for now!

I'll see how this works and get back in a week or so with the results. Well, chances are Update Pack 4 will be finally tested and officially released in a week or two, so you actually might find yourself facing yet another 1 Gb of updates that can (in theory) break something again. :D SSssssshhh!! ...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - February 2012

I got it off Google images. Type in "space wallpaper hd" in the searchbox and hit search, but I couldn't find my wallpaper there so here, I've uploaded it to imageshack. Note that the resolution is 1920x1200--if you've got those extra large 2500 by something monitors, it's gonna look real...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - February 2012

The Compiz skydome includes a 1920x1200 size of the Halo 4 HD wallpaper off Google. The Conky setup is a basic looking one--just wanted to be colorful and added a few stuff and learned a LOT about Conky in the process, it was fun! Re: Dumped LMDE for now!

What I did when installing LMDE was update right away to the new update manager. I didn't have any option to not do so because the only package available for update was the mintupdate application. After doing that I noticed the update manager wanting my attention with a little red marker telling me ...

Re: Dumped LMDE for now!

LMDE is wonderful once you get things rolling :D I wonder if "to get things rolling " means "to track debian testing repos" :D UHOH! BUSTED! Ok I've actually done that until the recent Update Pack 4 was released. Now it's all LMDE again! I think LMDE has a huge momentu...

Re: Dumped LMDE for now!

Nah, I like Debians, but have never got along with *buntus  . I even tried LM7 and Lisa, but neither flipped my switch. Tried sidux - too many arguments on their forums, obnixious mods; aptosid - sid doesn't get along with this lappy; Debian testing - can't stand Gnome; Desktop BSD - seems li...

AHA! Docky, I keep hearing about Docky. I might have to try it :) Using DockbarX at the moment, and it's quite nice but not so fancy as the others. But my laptop is old and slow, I wonder if it would hate me for installing Docky

Re: My system is very slow

Oh.. reminds me of my faulty voodoo graphics card back in the days. It was colourfull dots everywhere! .. in 3D-mode ofc, in 2D my matrox card took care of the work.. But still. My point is. It could be a faulty graphics card :(

Re: LMDE/ Debian Testing and font rendering

Hi Bobbo Yes, kept the packages with ubuntu tags. zerozero has a point though.. maybe not in 3 months from now, but 4.. it'll all break I am thinking that Clem will not abandon his good work with the fonts. I am looking for new packages to come from him, perhaps when all this Cinnamon thing gets wo...

Re: LMDE/ Debian Testing and font rendering

Just a follow up to 'zz's post. :) I took a little different approach to the xorg update problems . (Not wanting to loose Clems font fixes). I commented out Mint repo temporarily (like above), but did not do a FULL DU. I just updated xorg and libpixman , then re-enabled mint repo. That was 3 months...

Re: LMDE/ Debian Testing and font rendering

I'm afraid the new packages will bring horrible font rendering, and I will not be able to sleep at nights.. Learn to use Clonezilla. Backup or restore whole LMDE partition: 10-15 minutes max. Perfect for 'major' type experimentation. cheers, rhodry Hmm that is, although not an answer to my question...

Re: LMDE/ Debian Testing and font rendering

Ah how wonderful that I found this thread! I was curious with the xorg-updates I keep seeing being held back by apt-get. They would not install with dist-upgrade so I tried editing the etc/apt/preferences file and make some changes so the new xorg-packages would install. When I did apt-get update an...

Re: My system is very slow

I would try going with some VESA driver and see if xorg still behaves the same way.

Check this out and see if it helps: http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
