Re: 2013: Taking the Mint userbase to the next level.

I don't understand why Wine is not installed by default with a new distrobution ? it should be in EVERY linux out there that is on a mission to win over Windows users, even if users dont use it it is a mere few hundred mb of space that is consumed. Little things like that can really add to the easy...

Re: Former Xandros and PCLinuxOS user here

Welcome! :D

If you are interested in seeing LMDE Kde you can install the Gnome version, then install the kde-full package - then you have LM Debian Kde!. I suggest you try that because I don't think there's any plans for a kde edition

Re: LQ - Browser and OS Statistics for 2010

Here's another interesting source for OS stats: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp Looks positive for linux, although it's still only 5% - slight dips from month to month but overall it seems to be increasing year on year! I'd love to see a breakdown of the Linux split (I don 't know ...

Re: open office & libre office

LibreOffice is a fork of Open Office, that is to say that it was a bunch of OO developers who've taken OpenOffice and split off from the OpenOffice project. (Not quite like Mint which is built on top of Ubuntu (ie everytime Ubuntu releases Mint takes the new release and does some work to it), here t...

Re: About Firefox's Google search engine

The easiest way (And my personal favourite) is to use keywords, and type directly into the addressbar. For example: For a Google Search I type: g searchwords Or for imdb searches: imdb Toy story 3 To set this up its really simple just right click on the seach field next time you're on google.ie and ...

Re: Mint ranking on Distrowatch

This is a random question linked to the concept of judging a distro's usage: I know that any method of judging usage is questionable, but I was wondering about website stats. These are never broken down into distros as far as I can see, all Linux are lumped together as one (which is fair enough give...

Re: HOW TO PROMOTE LINUX MINT TO THE AVERAGE SCHLUB

I think that if you were to make a tutorial it would look far better run off something like Desktop Recorder with a voiceover explaining what you're upto. The quality from a camera looking at any type of monitor is always poor.. But yeah I definitely think that it's a good idea for the tutorial vids...

Re: thinking of switching to lmde

I find it interesting when I hear comments that "things don't run as smoothly" in LMDE. I think EVERYTHING runs better. Will it require a little reading and research to set things up? YES! Will it run quickly and without glitches? On my Dell Inspiron and my Lenovo everything runs better without any...

Re: thinking of switching to lmde

another question is as a user who has never used debian is there really a notable difference between lm and lmde? and if there is is it really worth the switch to use lmde? LMDE is quite similar to the main edition, although it is definitly quicker. You're a tiny bit closer to the 'source' so some ...

If you use the normal gnome menu it is integrated:

(It's a bad picture in a foreign language, but I'll explain how to find use it:

right click on the panel on the bottom, choose 'add to panel' and somewhere in that list there is the menu.)

I did notice a few calls for that while scanning the idea's page:

Out of curiosity is the community website administered by clem and the main developers?
I was trying to work out what software it is run off, it's a pretty impressive custom build!
