Re: Mintstick with Clonezilla image
give Popsicle a go https://github.com/pop-os/popsicle/releases This looks interesting. I've downloaded it, and I'll try it soon. I was able to get my USBs created using an older version of Mint, which had an older version of Mintstick, but that is only viable until I upgrade that old workstation. H...

Re: Mintstick with Clonezilla image
Use Ventoy and simply copy over the Clonezilla ISO to the root of the drive and then boot to the USB stick, select the Clonezilla ISO and use Clonezilla like usual. that's what I have been doing for quite a while now without issue. nice and easy ;) That's just using Clonezilla as normal. That's fin...

Re: Mintstick with Clonezilla image
I am trying to use Mintstick to create a bootable Clonezilla image. Does that mean you are trying to write the Clonezilla iso (or zip) file to a USB so you can use Clonezilla for cloning, as described here? https://clonezilla.org/liveusb.php/linux-setup#linux-setup Not quite. Clonezilla allows you ...

Mintstick with Clonezilla image
I am trying to use Mintstick to create a bootable Clonezilla image. I've been doing this for years, and it's always worked. With a recent version of Mintstick (1.5.6), the imaging process is aborted, telling me that it looks like I'm trying to write a Windows image, and I should use Ventoy. It is co...

Re: Monthly News – June 2019
It was my understanding that the MATE project was also associated with Mint. Did that change, or was I just misunderstanding the relationship?

Re: Monthly News – June 2019
I didn't see any mention of Mate in this month's status. Is a Mate version still going to be supported?
I've tried Cinnamon several times, but I personally find the Mate experience more comfortable.

Re: Ciinamon 3.8.x - Mint 19 Additional Window Borders / Metacity Themes
Is there a way to add these in globally and not just in a per-user way? They work perfectly if installed as instructed, but just for that one user.
Could I just unzip them in the /usr/share/themes directory, or would that break what's already there?

Re: [19beta] pdfchain out?
It's so tiring to read such comments day after day after day being directed towards new forum members judging their level of knowledge and competence by the number of their posts. Thank you for bringing that up. You speak my mind as well. Cheers My post count is pretty low. I didn't start using Lin...

CUPS on 18.2
I've been struggling to get CUPS set up on 18.2. This may not be related to Mint itself -- it seems that the interaction of systemd and cups makes connecting to the CUPS web interface problematic at the best of times, but my particular problem isn't quite the normal one. The problem I'm having is ge...

Re: Dirty cow Exploit patches
apt-get linux-generic-lts-xenial should do the same function Pretty close. I did a test and it requires that you add linux-generic to the list. If you do, it does remove your existing kernel, which is probably a good idea in the long run, but makes me a little uncomfortable until I'm sure the upgra...

Re: Dirty cow Exploit patches
I have about 120 workstations to patch, and going around to each one to bring up a GUI is really not in the cards. This seems to be working for me to patch Mint 18: apt-get install linux-headers-4.4.0-45 linux-headers-4.4.0-45-generic linux-image-4.4.0-45-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-45-generic

Re: Add Xscreensavers to Mate
Where do you get mate-screensaver-hacks-5.26-1-any.pkg.tar.xz? Link or even a description of where that file lives would be nice. Is there anything to it other than the existing .desktop files with the OnlyShowIn line amended to add MATE to it? I haven't had any luck with modifying those files in LM...

Re: Reinstalling with separate home partition
Do you have off-machine storage? How big (full) is your current home directory? I'd consider making a copy of all your files elsewhere, probably using rsync. Then blow away the entire disk, repartition into three partitions (/, /home, swap) and reinstall. I personally don't see any advantage to a ne...

Re: (SOLVED) Tesseract OCR?
I've never used the GUI -- I wasn't even aware that it had one. I think one of the changes from version 2 to version 3 was support of formats other than tiff. 95% is pretty good for any OCR. Tesseract is one of the better ones I've found. Unfortunately, you'll discover that the 5% that's left can be...

Re: I can't use my DVD drive
My cdrom folder isn't in the dev folder. It's in the file system folder and has no pointer next to it. I can open the dvd drive by clicking eject from the computer icon but when I go to open the media, I get a message that says it's unable to mount location. Should I move it to the dev folder? Don'...

Re: Making a disk image of my computer
You can't image/clone a running system drive. I've heard that clonezilla will eliminate empty space. Is that right? If so, that alone would be worth it. HOWEVER if the install is encrypted (which is pretty common now) I would expect clonezilla would also make an image that is the full size of the d...

Re: How to set up a local mirror for extra.linuxmint.com?
Well, this is a very long delayed answer, but disabling ipv6 doesn't seem to make any difference. The problem seems to be that extra.linuxmint.com is frequently unreachable. Right at the moment, apt-get can't connect, ping doesn't see it, and even nmap doesn't see anything. I just checked from home ...

LM 17.1 to 17.2 upgrade mysteriously fails
While I was on vacation last week I easily upgraded my sister's 17.1 laptop to 17.2. It Just Worked. Unfortunately, when I got home I had 4 different machines that I need to do the same upgrade on at work, and unfortunately it's not going so smoothly. In each case the upgrader finishes with a messag...

Re: MDM HTML5 Themes
I'm installing 17.1 Rebecca at work and I really like the overall look of the Mint-X theme. I'm not particularly good at javascript, but I've managed to get rid of the userlist. That's half the battle, but I have been completely unable to figure out how to get the welcome_message to display. I'd rea...
