Re: LMDE XCFE or Gnome edition
Hi Xwang! :) Personally, I'd recommend waiting for the official release, or at least release candidate, of Linux Mint KDE edition (based on Debian). I expect it will be released within the next couple of months, and may have KDE 4.7 packaged at the time of its release. If you feel you can't wait, h...

Sound muted when I start up/login?
It's minor, but I'm finding the fact that my box is automatically setting sound to 'mute' upon login to be, well, annoying. It's about the only problem. Sound otherwise works fine, I'm just wondering if there's some sort of command I can set to run at startup to rid myself of this annoyance. As I sa...

Re: Ubuntu Studio moving to Xfce
I can do that myself w/Liquorix kernels Or you could just use a realt time kernel right? There should be a ppa somewhere and the -rt kernel is available in the repositories AFAIK. This is because I remember seeing a mailing list a while back, where they showed that Liquorix kernel's BFS doesn't rea...

Re: Xfce Debian and Chromium/Chrome
Okay ... before anyone asks, I'm not normally this obsessed with solving a problem ... but I can't stand Firefox. Or Midori. Or pretty much anything other than Chromium. So I MUST solve this problem ... and I finally did. No scripts, no modification of bash files ... a simple. clean elegant solutio...

Re: I suppose I should introduce myself... :P
Welcome to the Mint Forums affirmedatheist. Sounds like we've had pretty much the same Linux experiences so far. I fully agree with you regarding apt vs. rpm package management. While I haven't really had rpm hose my system, it runs at a snail's pace compared to apt. If I'm going to install somethi...

Re: I suppose I should introduce myself... :P
Wow. that's 2 former OpenSUSE distro users today. I hope it's not a trend... 12.1 isn't due out til Nov. so I suspect that migrations will be up around then. I should point out that most of my experience with openSUSE was with 10.1 (the one with the hopelessly sluggish YaST - and I was lear...

Thanks for the notice, I'll do that in future, wasn't sure what the protocol was here.

I suppose I should introduce myself... :P
I've already posted in a few places, but thought it mightn't hurt to at least introduce myself. I'm a fairly long-time linux user now. I'd call myself at an 'intermediate' level of knowledge (I know about acls, the setguid and setuid bits, and such, but not much of the really higher level stuff). Fi...

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/8137/screenie1t.jpg My current setup. Gotta fix the menu logo and a couple of other things, but other than that I'm pretty happy with the default theme (which ironically was pretty much the look I was after when I was using Ubuntu/Kubuntu :P ). Loving LMDE so far....

Re: LMDE & nVidia Driver
Yeah, apparently there have been some problems in LMDE with the architecture change from standard to PAE kernels. The linux-headers for 2.6.39 are apparently not getting downloaded when people update (nvidia's driver requires these to compile its driver against). This is ok, you can manually install...

Re: Ubuntu Studio moving to Xfce
It's pretty much a no-brainer for mine. I'm amazed they didn't do it sooner. I decided to try XFCE when grabbing LMDE and I'm impressed by just how much if flies.
