Re: updated, boot fails, katya 11.
update: okay, here's what it's spitting back at me. it runs through starting all the usuals, starting kernel message saving, bluetooth. then it spits this gem out: building vloopback driver... make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=/tmp/webcamstudio-src modules make[1]: entering directory `usr/src/...

updated, boot fails, katya 11.
so last night, i did the usual update. the last update i did... was when WINE 1.4 got pushed to us. my wife turned my computer off last night right before she went to bed. went to start it this morning, got nothing but a nice wall of text, including 'starting fallback graphics failed [ok]' among oth...

so, microsoft, the 17th biggest contributor to linux development.
who'da thunk it? especially after ballmer's 'cancer' remarks.

Re: Mint 11 KDE development
KDE definitely feels like a 2nd class citizen around here (maybe not even that high). I'm considering either adding the KDE packages to LMDE XFCE or upgrading to Kubuntu Oneric (beta). The first option seems like an inefficient method (and I'm not sure 4.7 is in the repos anyway) so I'm leaning tow...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE
Yep, just totally forgotten. I don't think kde people are high on the priority list at Mint headquarters. :? most likely we're not hearing anything because they're tossing the idea of whether or not to even release a KDE version of Katya at all, given that it's moving to the Debian edition. i'm put...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
Mint Katya with KDE plasma running on top of it(tried it, loved it, swapping to LMDE when the KDE version drops...). couple minor tweaks, AWN, etc. i really like that idea! that's why i gave it a shot as well and i gotta say, it runs fast under KDE, i really like it! So here's my LinuxMint 11 Katya...

Re: Running Mint 11 Katya W/ KDE, and want to use the Mint M
As the title states, I am running mint 11 katya Where can I download the Mint11 Katya W/KDE version? I did not find the KDE version on your website, only the version 10. Thanks for your responses. a lot of us that want to use KDE with current-generation mint(katya) are running generic KDE right now...

Re: Mint Katya running a vanilla KDE install
Solna, where did you get the ISO? The only thing I can see about LMDE KDE11 is Boo has not updated any information at all for the last month on the progress of Katya. I'm waiting to give it a try as soon as it is released. i'm running the vanilla KDE- that is, the stock version of KDE without any o...

Mint Katya running a vanilla KDE install
so on a whim(and curiosity) i went and installed KDE this morning. i gotta say i'm not disliking it. 4.x has seemed to be really polarizing, but i'm having a hard time finding fault in it. this is awfully shiny. 4.6.2 seems to be pretty nice but i'll give a full opinion in a few days. visually it's ...

Re: Poll: Will Linux Mint overtake Ubuntu and/or even Window
it's worth taking a look at web usage(which is a decent indicator of common usage). linux OS use is up a whopping 25% in the last year or two! to an amazing 1% of usage overall. part of this is exposure. a lot of people are pretty clueless about linux. a lot of people are uninformed. i myself, years...

Re: Cloning hard drives
nine months old. pretty dang shiny. now, it was hooked into a system that had the power supply rather spectacularly go out(which actually did a good bit of electrical damage to a lot of the rest of said system), so i wouldn't be shocked if that contributed. the drive's headed further south, faster. ...

Cloning hard drives
So, come to find out, my shiny 500GB drive has got some issues. approximately just under 5,000 of them. bad sectors, that is. it's almost like an entire platter failed. drive capacity is about 79% and seems to be decreasing. so, time to clone to ol everlasting, the 300GB western digital drive. but, ...

xorg, openGL, and ati catalyst
okay, so on a lark(and curiosity) i tried a live cd of mint, and was impressed enough to go ahead with the install after learning about wine(im a WoW-head, what can i say?). now i'm a little baffled about the video drivers and system. i know mint comes with xorg 7.(something), and i'm pretty sure as...
