Re: Additional Drivers not working

I did that command and it reconfigured that particular x file, I tried restarting and there wasn't a change, so I tried running it again and it came up with the same message saying that the x file was misconfigured again... Now after restarting again x wont start at all :/not even the gdm, I think I...

Additional Drivers not working

Hi everyone, I'll try and be direct and straight to the point, I'm on mint 13 and it seems I can't use hardware acceleration. I say this because I can't play minecraft or run cinnamon, about a week ago I could do both of these just fine. I'm on an amd laptop with a Radeon 6540G2 graphics card (I thi...

Re: Can I have 2 Different Versions of Java installed at onc

Ahhh! Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted, I didn't realize how to install the java binaries from the actual site, once I worked that out your commands were exactly what I needed.

Cheers

n.b. It's been a while, how do I mark a thread as solved again?

Can I have 2 Different Versions of Java installed at once

Hello, I have a feeling this is kind of a stupid question, but I'll go for it anyway. At my university I am doing a computer science course so I require JDK7 for the ide we program in to work, so naturally I installed OpenJDK7 and that's been working like a treat, but recently the school has set up ...

Re: update-grub not adding an entry to grub.cfg

No dice unfortunately... neither "chainloading" nor the "chmod / chroot method" I did write my own menu entry basing it off the linux mint 12 one, except it kept saying it couldn't load the kernal, now this is just a crazy idea of mine and probably not common practice but I'm going to try copying th...

Re: update-grub not adding an entry to grub.cfg

Thank you for your quick reply, unfortunately I've already tried the methods on there... how ever now I have my other information that didn't save properly the first time sda1=windows sda2=linux mint 12 (tried installing seeing if that would repair grub better than boot recovery) sdb1=linux mint 11 ...

update-grub not adding an entry to grub.cfg

Hi there, I'm a bit of a newb so any assumptions I make on how exactly grub and the MBR actually work are just that, assumptions, and if I'm not clear on something just let me know. (or if this has already been solved please link the thread to me, as you're a much better searcher than I) For the las...

AptOnCD iso

Hey, Basically my question is this, can you add the image of an aptoncd disk to synaptic, I have a computer without a CD drive and the only thing stopping me from changing it from the dreaded windows is the fact that I can't make it the same as my other computer I am currently am on now, I managed t...

Re: Change GDM in mint 9

Ahh, that works perfectly, if you want to change the background and icon theme and things of the such, but sorry I should of mentioned I want to be able to choose a theme, for example one off gnome-look.org using a method similar to the one explained here http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-gdm...

Change GDM in mint 9

I'll be strait to the point, I'm using Linux mint 9, but I want to change the gdm (login screen if I've picked up the wrong lingo) every tutorial I read it tells me to go to administration -> log in screen or something to that effect Knowing Mint is based on ubuntu I looked around on their forums to...

Re: different wallpapers for different workspaces in Gnome??

I am currently on Fluxbox 8 but in my search for a wallpaper per desktop application, I found this one program called wallpapoz, it's supposed to work for Gnome, but I've never tried it
http://wallpapoz.akbarhome.com/download.html
I've heard good things about it, that's why I am suggesting it

Wallpaper Per Desktop

Hello, I've been searching for the last week or so for a way to set a different wallpaper for each desktop in Mint Fluxbox 8 I have found a few but they more seem to be for the gnome desktop and one article said that the KDE desktop had it inbuilt, I'm no good at making/compiling tar files so I can'...

Re: (Half Solved)* Sudo Shell on startup: Fluxbox 8

Well, just so the instructions I set out aren't useless, I'm going to edit them and that will be how I ended up getting it to work, in short I took what both Kendall and shengchieh said, I simply changed my code in my user documents to read pause 5 xgamma -gamma 1.6 I'm not sure if the pause has any...

Re: (Half Solved)* Sudo Shell on startup: Fluxbox 8

@Kendall, you're right, sorry people, I swear last time I tried using xgamma it told that error message about privileges, and well from that I just assumed that it needed it, not once did I go back and check that, My Apologies, but oh well this can now be used as a general guide for someone trying t...

Re: Sudo Shell on startup: Fluxbox 8

Well, what do you know? the very next thing I try works. first I had to create a small document in my home folder which I called "gamma_adjust_code.sh" witch only has pause 5 xgamma -gamma 1.6 then I opened up the terminal and used the line sudo chmod 777 gamma_adjust_code.sh to make it readable, wr...

Re: Sudo Shell on startup: Fluxbox 8

Again no luck, I might try making a stand alone batch and doing that whole chmod thing (which to be honest I don't really understand yet, but oh well, I'll stumble my way through it) sound like it might just work?
