Re: Installing Linux Mint 17 on Pentium M Processors

I just lost a detailed post due to an automatic logout. :( Anyway everything's working fine, as it should. The only reason there was ever an issue was because the PAE flag wasn't switched on for Pentium M processors, making them tell the operating system they weren't capable of running a PAE kernel ...

Installing Linux Mint 17 on Pentium M Processors

Wow, it's been quite a while since I've been here! A testament to the stability of LM13 I suppose... ;) Today I finally made time to attempt installing Linux Mint 17 RC on a laptop with a Pentium M processor that isn't PAE enabled. I noticed for Ubuntu 14.04 that it was made possible to install Ubun...

LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 at version 11.0, not 11.2

The latest release of Adobe Flash Player, 11.2, is the last major release for Linux (outside of Google Chrome), although it'll receive security updates for the next five years (http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Chrome-only-future-for-Flash-on-Linux-1440104.html) - rather convenient for this LTS...

Base Linux Mint 13 On Ubuntu 12.04.1

Hello Linux Mint community! Earlier today the idea occurred to me that LM13 should be based on U12.04.1. U12.04.1 is a bugfix and security update that should be released about three to four months after the release of U12.04. I can see several advantages to this: 1. Many of Ubuntu's most critical re...

Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

Hey GeneC! The easiest way to have mintMenu on Xfce is to: 1. Right-click on the panel, select Panel --> Add New Items. 2. Scroll down to XfApplet, and drag it to where you want it placed on the panel. 3. Right-click on XfApplet, select Properties. 4. Scroll down to and select mintMenu. If another m...

Things worth fixing for the next Xfce release

I've been happily running LM Xfce for a few weeks now, but have come across a handful of bugs that would be nice to have fixed for the next release. 1. If the desktop is accidentally scrolled, the workspace is switched. Of course, the workspaces applet isn't enabled by default, so users would be lef...

Re: LMDE XCFE or Gnome edition

Hi Xwang! :) Personally, I'd recommend waiting for the official release, or at least release candidate, of Linux Mint KDE edition (based on Debian). I expect it will be released within the next couple of months, and may have KDE 4.7 packaged at the time of its release. If you feel you can't wait, ho...

Re: Status of LMDE Fluxbox?

I just noticed that a Debian Fluxbox iso was posted yesterday for internal testing on the Community website - http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/87. Kendall mentioned that he's been having problems with gdm3 configuration. Might I suggest that he tries lightdm instead? It entered the Debian tes...

Re: LMDE RC

I've just been testing Linux Mint Gnome 32-bit RC, and have been noting as many flaws as possible from relatively casual testing. Needless to say, there's not many, and they're very minor, but they're still worth polishing before the final release. There's a duplication of LibreOffice Draw in the Ap...

Hmm... I can't find the download links for the isos on the pages zerozero listed (just all the test cases). Does anyone know where they can be found?

Re: Unsettling buzz upon logout

I had this at the login screen and shutdown too, really annoying but fortunately simple to fix. Just install the package "gnome-alsamixer", run it and go to the farthest right channel which is called "PC Beep" and mute it. Thanks for this! :) Now LMDE64 is perfect! :D For the sa...

Unsettling buzz upon logout

I have successfully installed LMDE64, and it works flawlessly... except for this sound issue. Whenever I logout/restart/shutdown, my laptop speakers make a (fortunately) brief, loud, shocking buzz. This isn't an issue with LM10, but it is an issue with CrunchBang Linux, so I suspect this could be a ...

Making room on a Windows partition with spread out files

(I hope the subject line made enough sense...) Hello everyone! :) Following yet another excellent release of LM, I've become tempted to install LM10 alongside a WXP install. However, the hard disk size is ~52GB, of which WXP takes up ~26GB. This wouldn't be a problem, except the Disk Defragmenter in...

"Copy To RAM" Booting Option On LiveCD

Hi everyone! :) Recently I made use of PCLinuxOS's "copy to RAM" feature on their liveCD - a rather useful feature, to be sure (e.g. I used it so I could wipe my hard disk, download the Ubuntu Maverick RC to RAM, and burn the iso to CD - something that can't be done while using a liveCD, o...

Re: Annoying usability issue which could do with a fix

I checked with other themes, and the issue raised seems to be a recurring theme (no pun intended) among all of them. While I personally wouldn't expect this to be corrected for this release (after all, Shiki-Wise is a theme from two previous LM incarnations), it's something for the LM devs to consid...

Re: LM 9 Isadora - Constructive Criticisms

Every distro I've used goes through this same argument each time a new version is released. It will never, ever be settled. I'd rather have Open Office as part of the initial installation. If I don't want it, I can always remove it and download the SMALLER packages to replace it rather than the oth...

Re: LM 9 Isadora - Constructive Criticisms

Ah... that's a good consideration! :D Well, perhaps it would then be prudent to instead include Abiword and Gnumeric (i.e. GNOME Office) on the default install? And perhaps even additionally have the "Get OpenOffice" script as well? (I personally end up using both OpenOffice and GNOME Offi...
