Re: Can't get Broadcom Wifi connecting LMDE 64 bit

Please uninstall the STA driver and try the brcm80211 driver: http://wiki.debian.org/brcm80211 You can use the install instructions for Wheezy; the non-free component in sources.list is already there in LMDE. Thanks for the reply, but there are a bunch of Broadcom STA things listed as installed in ...

Can't get Broadcom Wifi connecting LMDE 64 bit

Hello, So i followed the instructions under the "Install Broadcom-sta (wl) driver in LMDE" page, using the script. At first the wifi connected, but not being a trusting person, I rebooted the laptop. After the reboot however, it won't work. It sticks in a loop of trying to connect (the network conne...

Re: Mint Debian Install & 1st Impressions

LMDE Install Let me preface this with the fact that I am not complaining about anything here this is just my observations as I installed LMDE and 1st started poking around. So far I really like what I have seen and I think Clem and the gang has done an excellent job in bringing us a new variant of ...

Folders have disappeared

Hey, i hope someone can help me with this, it's a bit weird. I'm using LMDE on a 64 bit machine. Acer Aspire 5742. It's run like a dream for months. I was trying to type something like /home/ into the terminal and it accidentally appears to have typed into nautilus before i realised. After that, all...

Skype causes network disconnection

This is kind of a weird issue. I installed Skype on my LMDE as per instructions on this forum, but i'm unable to actually log in with it. I know the username and pw are correct as i've just logged onto skype.com with the same credentials. I try to log into skype on the laptop, and it just says "sign...

Re: Update running like a dog with no legs

OK, so i'm in Japan, and for most of my updates it connects to the local server and is fine. However, some of the updates are gathered from http://archive.ubuntu.com and it crawls along like a sloth. Current update speed says "Download rate: 1585 B/s - 2h27min26s remaining." This is for an 11mb Fir...

Re: Tested LIVE, everything so slow

You're running Mint LXDE from the cd but Lubuntu is installed? If so the it's not really a fair comparison. As for my own experiences, i find Lubuntu a little faster than Mint LXDE and a fraction slower than Peppermint Ice when they're all installed. I also find that the screensaver is a big resourc...

Re: After yesterdays updates wireless is disabled

Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I checked the BIOS settings and reinstalled the Broadcom driver to no avail. Then just as an afterthought I tried the wireless function key and after a few seconds wireless was restored. May not work for you but if like me you missed trying the obvio...

Re: After yesterdays updates wireless is disabled

Guess this is a tough one huh! 89 views and not even one reply, not even to say "i don't know."

It's weird, i can still connect fine with the ipod, wii, ps3, but not the pc since the bunch of updates on the day i said earlier.

I even removed and reinstalled all the broadcom stuff, to no avail.

After yesterdays updates wireless is disabled

My wifi was working fine, but after i installed whatever updates were required yesterday, and then rebooted, it just shows my wifi as disabled. I haven't rebooted it again since then. When i first installed Mint 9 LXDE it was the same, so i installed the broadcom package (broadcom-sta-common, plus w...

Re: Ubuntu 10.10 not for older PC's anymore..

Thanks for the heads up, good to know. I was going to try to pick up and resurrect an old desktop off craigslist so my 10yr old niece would have something to surf the web with. Looks like I'll either be picking her up a new net top or I'll go Debian LXDE on an oldie. Boo to Ubuntu for that. If they...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE vs Peppermint OS

I can 100% back the fact that Toshiba's do not work well with Peppermint OS, that is why I gave mine to the local coffee shop and I am now happily running Peppermint OS on my ASUS netbook and on two out of the three hard drives on my desktop, Linux Mint rounding out the lot. I've been using Pepperm...

Re: Panel Opacity

Just installed LXDE RC and it`s very good. But I don`t seem to be able to get full opacity on the panel. When I click Panel Settings/Appearance/Solid Color/ it should be totally opaque. Mine is black. I believe this is a problem in Lubuntu also. One of the things I like about LXDE over XFCE is the ...

Re: Progress...

regarding the firestarter comment I made... It seems that this version uses ufw for a firewall, same as the last version. Version 8 also had a gui for it, gufw. Not to be found on LXDE 9. I went to install it but synaptic wants to add 'menu' to the install. I'm afraid this would really hose the men...

Re: After 2 days Lucid Lynx

Ubuntu seems to have been taken over by the marketing people and I think that more of the distros will go over to Debian. I'm not sure they will. The release cycle for Debian is just too long, and i think so many people now distro-hop that waiting such a long time for new releases will annoy the he...

Re: Peppermint OS

How does this compare with Lubuntu? I prefer their choice of default browser though - chromium. I'd say it's on a par with Lubuntu, which i also really like. They're looking at making Iron Browser available in the repositories soon (i believe Chromium already is). Iron is similar to Chromium, but w...
