Re: [Mint 15] Cinnamon running in software rendering mode

Another update. Finding grafx issues after installing fglrx-updates driver. Slight transition glitches when minimizing desktop windows. Also screenshot packages fail to grab immediate desktop image or selected area. These include Shutter and Gnome Screenshot. There may be other grafx issues yet to b...

Re: [Mint 15] Cinnamon running in software rendering mode

Success! Following stormhike's method, all good. Thanks. No annoying pop-up, (quad) CPU cores all idling below 1%. (Check under System Tools -> System Monitor) Will monitor video stability and performance.

Unsure if this thread can be marked solved. Any others tried this, and found their fix?

Great! Will test on my PC over the weekend. For clarity, have you achieved:
1. No more "software rendering" warning pop-up?
2. No undue CPU overload? (Idle well below 10%?)

Cannot comment with authority as I'm no Cinnamon or Mint coder. But if you peruse this forum currently, you'll discover a whole raft of inter-related Cinnamon grafx issues' threads that canvass CPU irregularities, X crashes, error messages, grafx driver glitches etc. including: http://forum.linuxmin...

Re: [Mint 15] Cinnamon running in software rendering mode

Was hoping latest system update would cure this pest. But no. Software rendering message lingering like a bad smell. Awfully quiet from the Mint developers' sandbox end, isn't it? (Must be something to do with Gnome 3.8. Maybe an entire Cinnamon grafx interface has to be re-coded?) :?

Re: [Mint 15] Cinnamon running in software rendering mode

No luck with a solution yet. My CPU (quad) cores idle at 30-40%!!! Several questions arise: 1. Has anyone from the Mint Cinnamon 15 development team responded in any way? 2. Has anyone tried either of the two optional Ubuntu AMD fglrx drivers, and found instant success? 3. What is it with apparent l...

Re: [Mint 15] Cinnamon running in software rendering mode

Same minor irritant here. Hardware includes AMD HD7750 grafx card. Interestingly when one checks Mint's pre-selected system drivers following installation, all appears OK. So this could be as simple as modifying a single boot-up instruction. Will check grub syntax later. Overall, given recent nasty ...

Re: Fully Purge IceTea/JAVA+Thunderbird in MINT 13 Cinnamon(

Wish it were that simple. As I've just ditched Cinnamon 13 I cannot recall the various dependencies but they were more than just "meta-". There were several invoived. Gonna download MATE version and check its dependency tendency (!!!). Ultimately I'll end up with a stable Mint OS that caters for "tr...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

Seems the non-LXDE13 deal is done. Great shame. LXDE 12 is a trim, terrific version that works really well. No doubt Clem & team envisage MATE/Cinnamon as the future. Still reckon there's a valid role for a lightweight MINT option, where one can optimize/customize the OS fully. Ditch JAVA, Thunderbi...

Nil response thus far. Early days I guess. Maybe a broader question. Anybody tried removing unwanted packages from Mint 13 Cinnamon and found there were immovable dependencies involving Cinnamon? How did you get around that?

Fully Purge IceTea/JAVA+Thunderbird in MINT 13 Cinnamon(64)?

Having installed and tinkered with Mint 13 Cinnamon 64bit I'd appreciate helpful advice on how to completely eradicate IcedTea/JAVA and Thunderbird from the system. In synaptic it appears both these packages are inextricably dependent upon Cinnamon and vice versa. In spite of these slight blips I mu...

Re: Startup programs

For Mint 12 LXDE check /etx/xdg/autostart. Thanks nunol. That did the trick. :) As root, rename 'mintupdate.desktop' file in /etc/xdg/autostart folder, as 'mintupdate.desktop.bk'. Then reboot to check. IMHO this M$-like auto-launch update manager thingy should be ditched in future. Any other users ...

Re: Startup programs

Hope you can help. Wanna make sure Update Manager does not auto-launch on start-up and plant itself in my systray.

I've checked:
1. Update Manager Preferences. No apparent option there.
2. /etc/xdg/lxsession/Mint-LXDE/autostart - No entry there.

No doubt there's a simple fix? TIA.

Mr Moderator

May I clarify (so I know better next time): Is my initial post considered too long? Too general? Not technical enough? Trollish? Foolish? Chatty? All of the afore-mentioned? Thanks.

Another fine Mint offering but..............

Thanks again, Clem and team. I really wanted to maintain this Mint 12 KDE 32-bit on my Lenovo E520. This has to be, potentially, one of the most intelligent, balanced and aesthetically-pleasing linux distros, period. And that's coming from a KDE-bloatware sceptic. It has great potential. However, at...

Maybe your trouble with installs is down to literacy rather than linux Thanks. Do you have anything useful to contribute to this thread? Like, for example, whether you have cruised through with "perfect" linux installs each and every time * with a large variety of hardware over many years *? Or spe...

Re: Noobie with questions, requests, comments......

OK, another unwelcome, unplanned desktop addition has appeared. An ugly shortcut label (sans icon) for Google Earth has appeared following GE installation. Just like the immovable "My Documents" icon (retro Redmond reincarnated?), there appears to be no easy means of deleting the latest desktop intr...
