Re: mint-flashplugin-11 out of date

to remove mint-flashplugin apt wants to also remove mint-meta-debian-codecs, I have found the following causes no harm in LMDE: apt-get -y remove mint-meta-debian-core mint-meta-debian-mate mint-meta-codecs mint-meta-debian-codecs the question is, why should I (or anyone else) need to do this at al...

Re: mint-flashplugin-11 out of date

In LMDE, to reduce lapses in flash player plugin security updates: Remove the Mint package: apt-get -y remove mint-flashplugin-11* Install the Debian package: apt-get -y install flashplayer-mozilla Or use Synaptic to perform the same tasks. Then configure web browsers to use click-to-play to keep fl...

Re: latest pepper flash

all updates installed, but although pepperflash ....226 is most recent, we are stuck at version.....207 for some time. Not robust, probably prone to various errors, no logging, only tested against one version change, but seems to work with the recent 226 update. Add to /etc/rc.local: if [ "`wh...

Re: LMDE 2 ISO Image

I'm really unsure about this whole "LMDE iso is old" idea. We're talking about Betsy, right? I never wrote anything about being old. :) I asked about updating the ISO. I don't have more than 15 minutes of updates myself. I live in an area with slow connection speeds. About LMDE being dead...

Re: LMDE 2 ISO Image

I am beginning to wonder whether LMDE is a dead project. Any hopes for an updated ISO image?

Re: Re-enable "Granted permissions without asking for passwo

Just a wild guess. Perhaps the password is stored in a permanent keyring rather than a session keyring. In a terminal, under your normal account, try the following: find $HOME -name *keyring* I don't know what files you'll find. Hopefully you find at least one file. Try renaming or deleting any or a...

Re: No boot splash

The bug does not exist in Linux Mint 17.2 MATE. 17.2 uses kernel 3.16.0-38 while LMDE 2 uses 3.16.0-4. I have no idea about the differences.

Would be nice if the kernel in LMDE received the same updates. :)

Updating the LMDE 2 kernel

Is there a preferred or recommended way to update the Betsy kernel? The 3.16.0-4 kernel is broken with respect to plymouth.

Thanks. :)

LMDE 2 ISO Image

Are there plans to update the Betsy ISO image, similar to updating the 17.x ISO images? The number of package updates is getting long.

Re: No boot splash

The problem is with the 3.16.0 kernel. Browsing the web reveals more than a few people having various graphics and boot splash problems with 3.16.0 in Debian based systems. For example: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87993 As proof-of-concept I installed the liquorix 4.1 kernel. The bo...

Re: No boot splash

Frustrating to me is I get the same results on different systems. I am more than willing to accept the root cause is between the keyboard and chair, but seeing this on different systems and with different video chip sets indicates something else is at play. Read the full thread for details. I have s...

Re: No boot splash

There's this article about fixing another plymouth issue. Tried that. No change. :( On one system with a fully updated LMDE 2 and an on-board nvidia chip set, when I use the quiet and splash boot parameters, the system refuses to boot. All I see is the following with a complete hang: [ 1.914469] no...

Re: Microsoft Remote Desktop-Like Option for Linux Mint

This past winter we set up a system similar to what you describe. The first caveat we discovered is punching through NAT is not easy. These days most folks are behind a NAT at the ISP level and not just with their own home routers. After discovering that significant obstacle we installed a router an...

Re: Cannot restart when using wireless

I resolved the problem for my particular use case. The NetworkManager (NM) "All users may connect to this network" checkbox has been enabled on my systems for a few years. Yet there is something not quite right with the way NM falters with wireless and not wired. I do not know whether that...

[SOLVED] Cannot restart when using wireless

Thinkpad T400, LMDE 2 MATE, fully updated. I use the standard MATE menu and not Mint Menu. I am not using a boot splash. When I am using the laptop wireless I am unable to restart (or shut down) the computer. The problem occurs only with wireless and only when attempting to restart directly in MATE....

Right click, show menubar. I forgot to add in my original post the steps to resolve the problem. * "Right-click" in the terminal window. * Select "Show Menubar." * Important to know is that action is not persistent or permanent. * Once the menubar appears, select Edit->Profile P...

Latest LMDE 2 MATE updates

The latest LMDE 2 MATE updates from a day or so ago change the mate-terminal defaults. The defaults for LMDE 1 and LMDE 2 previous to the recent updates is to show the menubar and use a solid background. This is how I had mate-terminal configured for myself and the people I support. After the recent...

Re: No boot splash

my only real machine with LMDE never had plymouth I also never use a boot splash, which is why I stumbled across this only through testing. The boot splash does work in LMDE 1 but not LMDE 2. A fresh install of 2 makes no difference with my results. I would like to know from the devs whether the bo...
