Ubuntu One Installation

Hello, I made a fresh installation from Mint 13 Maya to Mint 14.1 Nadia. As I use Ubuntu One to store and synchronize my files online I had some problems to install Ubuntu One (client+repositories) with the package manager. Just in case anybody has the same problem, this link http://www.noobslab.com...

Backup tool: Update from 11 to 13

Hi all, After running Mint 11 for a long time, I decided to get a clean installation of Mint 13 Maya. Beforehand I made a backup of my data with the backup tool and stored it successfully on an external hdd. After installing mint 13 Maya ran the backup tool and selected "root" as destination folder....

Re: Isadora vs. Julia

I switched from Mint 8 (which I used over quite a long time and which satisfied me in every aspect) directly to 10, up to now, performance is the same but I prefer the slightly changed design. I also used to run Mint 8 on my netbook, but as startup took quite a long time, I have started trying out U...

Re: Open Office on Mint /converting odf-doc

Thx for the answer, but my question was : if I write anything on Open Office within a document (odf ord doc9) some parts as header-footer, footnotes etc. tend to change place slightly when I open those documents in MS Office. Is there any way I can get a page set up in OO looking exactly the same as...

Open Office on Mint /converting odf-doc

Hi, as I am a happy Open Office user on Mint, doing a lot of my stuff (writing my PhD thesis etc) on Mint with OO, I am thinking about using Mint 10/resp. Ubuntu 10.10 also on my workplace PC. Nevertheless, as you might know, there are some small changes when converting odf files to doc or when open...

Re: Linux on Smartphone?

Wow interesting! I guess, more simple models like the NOkia C3 are harder to upgrade? Or, as an alternative an older LG KPT 610? I could use the LG to play around as I dont really use it

Re: Do you run Linux as your sole operating system?

At home I experiment with WIN/ different Linux OS on my desktop PC. I am running Linux Mint (10) on my laptop and Mint (8) on my netbook. At work, we are using WIN, nevertheless the guys at my workplace started to look sympathetic towards Linux. We are a small branch of a big government office abroa...

Linux on Smartphone?

As I have read some posts, regarding mobilephones: Would it actually be possible to load any Linux OS (small distros like puppy etc.) up your smartphone? Just a theoretical question, curious and would like to try it...has anybody tried?

European Commission of Two Minds on Software Purchases?

which command closes the system in the graphical interface

Hi all! Just a short newbie question, only out of curiosity: I know that the shell command to close down the system is "sudo shutdown -h now" . I was just curious: When I shut down the system via graphical interface (the start menu) which command is executed in the background? The same or another one?

external hdd not detected

Hi, I formatted an 250 GB external hdd (Trekstor xpress) via partition manager, neither my notebook (Linux Mint 9) nor another windows computer cant detect it anymore.
Am I forced to change the file system to FAT/msdos in partition magic or is there any way to recognize the hdd in Mint?

Thanks

Re: HOW TO PROMOTE LINUX MINT TO THE AVERAGE SCHLUB

Excellent ideas! I think people who are discovering Mint via websites etc. are already ready and willing to use an alternative OS to WIN. For the "average" PC user who only is familiar with windows the best strategy is to show it to him in person, and try not to proselyte but give him the choice to ...
