Re: Dumped LMDE for now!
I've finally got LMDE running the way it should - I think :!: I reinstalled the XFCE version, had problems with it, but this time when it pooped out on me, I installed LXDE and removed that pesky XFCE - then I got rid of the logout problem by installing another login manager, now I've got everythin...

Re: Dumped LMDE for now!
The one thing I couldnt live with after system upgrade was the regression with Cheese, which I use a lot for videos. That regression exists in Mint 12 and Ubuntu as well. I might try to do another install of Mint Debian and not upgrade to the new repos, but set them back to stable and add third part...

Re: Cheese doesn't work, or work whitout effects Guvcview to
Sorry nobody answered this, but I think its a kernel regression. It is definitely a regression. Are you using an Nvidia card? It worked for me in Backbox (based on Ubuntu) even after upgrade to 11.04. However, in Mint 12 as well as Mint Debian using kernel 3.2 (possibly 3.0) there is a regression do...

Re: ATI vs Nvidia (In 2012)
For a tad less than the last Nvidia, I can get this from ATI.

Even THIS at $180 seems to beat Nvidia in a lot of ways.

Re: ATI vs Nvidia (In 2012)
This card looks good for 550 TI. $170 at this time. Its less advanced than the 560 TI, but comes with 2gb Vram. Skyrim at the highest setting with mods can go beyond 1gb. This card wont wont out of VRAM for future gaming, but has fewer cores and 'bits'. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Ite...

Re: Best PAID programs, not found in repositories?
I was mostly looking for native linux apps that are paid. I prefer free apps, like most people, but I hear there are actually some really high end animation and graphics software that is paid and beats the Windows paid alternatives in professional studios....I also hear they are not cheap. Im just w...

ATI vs Nvidia (In 2012)
I am thinking about getting an Nvidia card for my office PC. I currently have a Radeon in my 'home-entertainment' pc, and it works awesome. Im using the open source drivers, and it works as long as I only use the open source driver. I only use Windows for gaming and in Windows my $60 card works terr...

Re: So....Anyone Occupying anything?
People probably COULD have paid back the loans if the interest rates had not skyrocketed, and if the job market was better. There are more workers than jobs, thanks to outsourcing labor. Its not a matter of people being too lazy to work, but a matter of the oppertunities not existing thanks to force...

Re: Build a Live DVD from my virtual machine?
Is Remastersys still working for Ubuntu these days? I hear the successor is ReLinux.
Nevermind, Relinux is looking like a dead project, and Remastersys is updated again. Hopefully it works with new distros.

Re: Build a Live DVD from my virtual machine?
I have already used Remastersys and other programs before. What I was curious about what using them withina virtual machine to make a remix of that same virtual machine, or within the host system and remixing the one that is in virtual.....Not which apps I would use to make a remix.

[quote="Nick_Djinn"]This is a really old post. A lot has changed since this thread was resurrected.
I think I was pretty up front with the fact that I am not experienced with running a server. However, its not as difficult as some people said it would be.

Re: So....Anyone Occupying anything?
Yeah, I sometimes wonder if there is any hope short of revolution......at least in Europe it would appear that they are WILLING to revolt. In the USA people regard it as unthinkable. They are brainwashed into thinking it would be hopeless.......News flash, the USA is not really any better fortified ...

Need new laptop: Suggestions welcome
So, its time to get a new laptop. This one is practically junk unless I can get it fixed. Max budget $1500. I wouldnt mind spending closer to $1200. Im looking at 15.6-16.4 inches, preferably wide screen. I need kick ass graphics and good sound. Keyboard quality, texture and responsiveness is one of...

Re: best linux supported video card for late 2011 early 2012
Also, while amd used to ignore linux, i dont think they ignored intel.....by contrast, i think nvidia somewha i it ignored amd. Ati might take less of a hit, besides the poor state of the drivers for limux, on an intel machine, than nvidia takes on an am3 board.

Re: best linux supported video card for late 2011 early 2012
Using nvidia on am3 was not a "problem" per se. It worked. It just didnt take full advantage of the features that are specific to amd technology. it works, but it takes a hit in performance.

Re: So....Anyone Occupying anything?
I know that housing is huge, but it was something that crashed AFTER the bubble burst. I object to painting a picture where it was a "mixture" of personal irresponsibility and corporate greed that created the problem, because while technically speaking there is certainly both, framing it t...
