ralplpcr's fix worked wonders for me - even with a dual monitor setup with some OLD Flat screens. Worked awesome with Mint Xfce 19.1 on a Quad Core Dell Optiplex 755 with an Nvidia card.
Thanks!

Re: SOLVED Brother MFC-8860DN Scanning (Mint 19)
I have a Brother MFC-210C scanner/printer. I don't use the printer, but the scanner has always worked great in Mint. This time (Mint 19.1) it failed to install - even using this site (which heretofore has always worked) https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/brother-printers.html . After runnin...

Re: Failed to apply network settings (timeout by message bus)
Searched through here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blueman/+bug/1574093 where someone said to delete network.state from /var/lib/blueman. I did that and rebooted, same exact error. So that's a dud. I didn't seen anything else that looked like a legit fix. Any ideas/suggestions appreciat...

Failed to apply network settings (timeout by message bus)
Hi, I get this annoying error on bootup: Error @ bootup.jpg The text reads: Failed to apply network settings org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) You might not be able to connect to the Bluetooth network via this machine Googling around and sea...

Re: The disk drive for /home is not ready yet or not present
Hi Spearmint2, Thanks for your awesome reply! I didn't know home was always owned by root. Therefore I assumed that's why dropbox was misbehaving. I went ahead and re-installed dropbox from the link you sent and it's working - at least at this juncture. Hopeful after rebooting it'll still work. The ...

Re: The disk drive for /home is not ready yet or not present
Thanks to both Warfrat and Spearmint2. To Warfrat results of first command: Peace ~ # for V in $(ls /dev/sda{7,8});do if $(blkid "$V" | grep -q ext); then echo -n "$V " ;tune2fs -l $V | grep "state";fi;done /dev/sda7 Filesystem state: clean /dev/sda8 Filesystem state: c...

The disk drive for /home is not ready yet or not present
Hi, Running x64 of Mint (Xfce Nadia). For some reason, I've lost my frigging home folder's user permissions! When I boot, it momentarily shows the "The disk drive for /home is not ready yet or not present" message asking me to hit "S" or "M" if I do nothing it just give...

Re: Mint XFCE firefox has "text/html decoder" error
Hi, Thanks for the reply and suggestion of installing flash-aid. I don't think I'm going to go that route however, b/c flash-aid caused a bit of a mess on another rig (my crunchbang rig) a few months ago. Besides, I suspect the problem has more to do with some idiosyncracy within firefox itself, rat...

Re: Mint XFCE firefox has "text/html decoder" error
Hi, Thanks for the response. I've opened up "Software Manager." when searching for Gecko, the following comes up: gecko-mediaplayer (already installed) alice gecko-mediaplayer:i386 (this is a 64 bit rig) wine-gecko1.4 wine-gecko1.4:386 I'm assuming you were referring to gecko-mediaplayer -...

Re: Mint XFCE firefox has "text/html decoder" error
Hi Flemur, Thanks for the replay. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how this is done. I've looked around for these plugins that you mention, and can't find any. When I do ap-cache searches for gstreamer | grep mms (or wavpack, quicktime, etc) it all comes up blank. So I'm obviously looking in the w...

Re: Making Thunar the default filemanager in Cinnamon
Hi,
I too would like to replace the default filemanager in Cinnamon. I'm running Mint 14 X64. I like Thunar (am an old XFCE fanboy - but want to give Cinnamon a spin). Is there a way to cleanly nuke nemo and insert Thunar?
Peace

Re: Mint 11 KDE development
Hi, I went through a great deal to try to get this puppy to work in Kubuntu 11.04. The final solution - for my rig (HP DV6233se) was to uninstall the bcmwl-kernel-source. I did confirm that the bcm43xx was blacklisted and removed the blacklist - didn't work. No fix on the broadcom sta driver ever wo...
