Re: USB Install

Feel like a complete newb here, but where can I find the program to install LM11 from flash drive? I can find .exe for it but I cant find a native linux program for it... If you're using Ubuntu there is startup disk creator or unetbootin. If you're using any other distro unetbootin is probably in t...

Re: Trying to Install Mint11 under bad conditions.

Yep ... would call the whole thing bad conditions. Starting with a bad choice of Mint distro ... Why Mint 11 ? Thought it's the buntu leap frogging based Mint edition. It's more supposed to be cutting edge ... Not old computer friendly. Would say look at Mint's lighter stuff. Mint releases that use...

Re: Trying to Install Mint11 under bad conditions.

It loaded up Linux from the USB drive, as if it was installed on the USB drive. It never gave me a choice to install to HD. Still havent got this working :( Edit : Well, it doesnt help the machine is so slow, I think control panel, Install Mint might be doing the trick. We'll see in several hours, ...

Re: IIS configuration step

I want to know that can i configure IIS on linux windows If yes then how to configure it. Kindly guide me the steps of its configuration. You would first have to invent "Linux Windows." Seriously though you might be able install it in Mint with WINE but you'd be better off just usin...

Re: LMDE Question

Well, I'm not really interested in an argument. Then why do you keep responding to my post by splitting hairs about what I said? Debian stable is most definitely conservative. Testing and unstable are conservative if you compare them to Arch (given that the maintainers test packages before they are...

Re: LMDE Question

I understand that LMDE is a rolling release. But many of the programs still seem to be out of date. I was hoping to get a more up to date distro by using LDME. Is there a schedule of the rolling updates? Also, if I just install a deb package what will happpen when the system updates? Thanks all Deb...

Re: Disable overlay scrollbars in Katya?

Figures. I was hoping there might be a GUI checkbox or something that would be simpler than removing the packages entirely. Mucking around in the terminal and manually editing configuration files is something that the end-user shouldn't be hassled with, especially not in a newbie-friendly distro li...

Re: How do virtual machines work?

I'm sort of curious because my processor is pretty quick.. maybe not compared to some of your computers, but it's definitely beyond Windows 98's wildest wettest dreams! So I can copy 600mb in just a couple minutes or so, but it still takes basically the full time Windows 98 predicts (30-60 minutes)...

Re: package manager gives me a 404 for wine

You gave the how-to to change the Linux Mint mirror. It does NOT change the ubuntu mirror. And Wine is in the Ubuntu repository. Changing the Mint's repo mirror won't help here. No, I'm sorry but you are wrong. Regardless to what it does to the mint sources changing what I describes does in fact ch...

@JasonLG no im not afraid to get my hands dirty but we live in a fast paced world where i don't always have the clarity of mind or time to extensively sit and setup parts of my O/S, i work hard and generally when im home and on linux im not at my best it needs to be easier than the stuff i deal wit...

Re: package manager gives me a 404 for wine

No, what was said in the thread was using a Wine PPA or a specific Wine repository. My link has mirrors for the Ubuntu repository. The main download server of Ubuntu often gives 404 errors which should not be there. I am using a mirror (BIT in the Netherlands) of the Natty repository and Wine just ...

Re: Install problem Mint 11RC 64bit

Looks like I've managed to crack it. Has to be a bug in the installer though. I have done two things, so I'm not sure which of them actually cured it and I'm not able to spend the time finding out now - maybe in a few days. I firstly used the Ubuntu 11.04 64bit Alternative Install disk to use the t...

Re: m4p problems, unlocking, converting

Okay, does this enable me to unlock my itunes purchases? I don't know, from what I read it's worth a shot. It's kind of old so it might not work. They might have changed their DRM. Already have Wine, so will this solve my iTunes thing? Again, I don't know. One way to find out would be to try it you...

Okay, I've become a devout linux fan. Yet I did overlook one thing. My purchased 'iTunes' songs, albums, what have you. I now run a pure Mint 10 OS, and absolutley love it. I am at present unable to play said iTunes purchases through Rhythm Box. Have searched for m4p to ? conversion progs, to no av...

Re: package manager gives me a 404 for wine

http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu In mint, I thinK its SETTINGS- REPOSITORIES- OTHER SOFTWARE-ADD That's if you want to add a PPA or 3rd party repo, that's not how you change your repo mirror. Adding a PPA is not going to change a 404 error which means that that the server can't find the repo i...

Re: Install problem Mint 11RC 64bit

Thanks for the updates Jason. I don't like the whole Unity thing either - I tend to keep my desktop looking fairly minimal and I think the new direction just looks a bit like a toy. I'll go 32 bit until full release and then I'll try that in 64 bit. Right on. If you can get it to install good for y...
