BigBenCG: Thanks for your help, and the others. Greatly appreciated. Shows again the benefit of user support forums for Linux.

I am running the x64 version of Mint 9, on an AMD FX-51 [kinda old] computer. Would these problems have been avoided, had an x32 version been installed, I wonder?

Have encountered the same problem on a freshly installed Mint 9 - with no other changes. Firefox extensions added: Adblock Plus 1.2; LastPass 1.68.2; Mint search enhancer 1.0; Xmarks 3.6.14. Encountered same problem with a late RC for Ubuntu 10.04. Not a problem in Mint 7.

I have encountered the same problem. I lack the technical skills to replicate the system info presented above, but it is the same problem. Encountered this also woth a late RC of Ubuntu 10.04.
