Re: Bumpy video

All right, apparently I have the problem with Cinnamon and GNOME.

I didn't have MATE at that time, as I installed and tried it between this and my previous post.
MATE does not have the issue, but that still doesn't change the fact that Cinnamon and GNOME do...

Re: Bumpy video

I'm mostly using Cinnamon atm, but I also had this problem in Gnome or MATE (now I'm no longer sure witch, I thought UP4 was defaulted to MATE, but checking repos shows very few (but nevertheless, some) MATE packages installed). As for the system monitor results: Cinnamon: Cinnamon itself uses about...

Bumpy video

Since UP4 my video / movie is bumpy, as if the frame rate is low. I tried VLC, M player and Totem, tried in both MATE and Cinnamon, and also tried them after choosing to boot the kernel from the previous UP in Grub. All the same problem. What causes this and how do I fix this? (AMD processor, ATI gr...

Re: Gnome -> Xfce with neverball

Completely disabling Compiz got the performance difference down to not noticeable. This kinda amazes me, since I already had really few features of Compiz disabled.
It keeps me wondering...

Gnome -> Xfce with neverball [~Solved]

I originally installed Isodora Gnome 32 on my almost 5 year old laptop. Recently I decided to try other common DEs (KDE, Xfce, Lxde) next to Gnome and put some effort in mintifying them. There's one thing that puzzles me: When running neverball (open source game) under Gnome I had to disable all spe...

Re: Best browser for Linux?

Progressor, both FireFox and Chrome/Chromium have extensions for mouse gestures. :) Mouse gestures is an option I disabled as soon as I knew it existed. It seems really annoying to me that something happens on mouse movement. I wasn't talking about gestures, just button combinations. (Though no dou...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

As an unexperienced user I would probably go to Mandriva, or Ubuntu.
But there's a chance Ill go distrohopping. Try annything from Gentoo to Arch Linux. :-p

Re: Best browser for Linux?

Under Windows I started with Firefox, but a I saw a friend use Opera before I ever heard of it. Curious by nature, and because she said it's faster (efficiency is neat), I gave it a try. There was a lot to customize (which is addicting on it's own :-p), and these days the only thing I miss is lookin...

I hadn't but the problem was fixed when I changed my choice for a compose key (for é, ü etc.) from the left to the right Super. Magicly the shortcut for the menu started working again too. ^^
Thanx for the reply.

(Though I still don't get hoe the super conflicts with Cntrl Alt T...)

As for the tray icon: I chose to disable it.
But maybe you do like them with music players... Have you tried stuff with the configuration of the plug-in?

Toetsenbordinstellingen

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

I think the amount of choice contributes to a more popular Ubuntu within the Linux comunity, not to a less popular Linux in general. Ubuntu is like a 'default choice', a choice for people who can't choose so to say. Everyone around me who I tolled that I was gonna switch to Linux automatically assum...

Re: Partitions after installing

You've misunderstood me. I didn't intend /usr for an OS. When I mean switching Distro, I don't mean installing them side by side. I meant installing another Distro instead of my current. I'm hoping that through partitioning I only have to format the OS partition where I install the other Distro inst...

Re: Partitions after installing

I'm not dual booting so I don't have a Windows partition. Well, I'm not really worried about that kind of stuff, just rather safe then sorry. However I would like to keep the option open to switch distro at some point (not anywhere soon, though). I don't want to reinstall all the softwarewhen I do s...

Re: Partitions after installing

It's treu that I'm prabably still suffering from a Windows Mind set. I'm hoping that some Minty medication will cure it. ;-) My idea behind the extra partition was to keep the OS on a small partition, so if anything faulty happens to the disk, the OS is more likely to be unharmed. (Wasn't this the p...

Partitions after installing

This is my first week on Linux, I waited for the release of Isadora to turn my back on XP completely. Partitioning was really the trickiest part of the installation and something didn't go quite right here. What I intended was about this: 5 Gb: OS 4 Gb: Swap (though I now believe it should be less) ...
