Re: Recovery of root partition required on every reboot

Maybe ext3 works better, because there is less stuff on the memory when shutting down the computer. Ext4 uses smart writing, so the shutting commands have not enough time for writing to the hard drive when the computer is shutting down fastly?

Re: error message while booting

I think that this is a Mint 14 bug. I do not know if it helps by installing MountManager and determine mount points for every partition with it?

Re: Cinnamon edition Hangs on boot.

Is there any room left on the Mint´s partition(s)? You can check the partitions via liveCD.

Re: Mint partition flagged as "unallocated"

TestDisk may correct the partition table. You can run TestDisk via linux liveCD/USB, and you can install TestDisk via package management.

Re: Multi-booting all 4 flavors of Mint?? How??

I think that if you make a folder for booting files and copy all the ISOs to the folder + download and extract SuperGrub2 files to the same folder + edit grub.cfg file adding your ISOs'information to the file. After that install xorriso package and make a bootable ISO from the folder. grub-mkrescue ...

Re: Multi-booting all 4 flavors of Mint?? How??

Basically you can do it making a custom bootloader for a DVD, which boots all the ISOs, or you can make a custom DVD ..

A normal case with Mint. You need to copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf file via liveCD (Puppy, Mageia, etc).

Re: yet another antivirus thread ?

Actually you do not need AV programs for Mint, but it can be useful for Windows. ClamTK is a virus scanner, which can be installed via package management or command line. sudo apt-get install clamtk After installation you need to update a virus database using command sudo freshclam http://www.youtub...

I thing that this is a grub2 related problem, because I had almost the same problem with this computer. My solution was to use Lecacy grub, which works fine. You could run commands sudo os-prober and sudo update-grub . The first command seeks the operating systems and the second updates the bootload...
