Re: Fix for Missing Fonts/Letters in Cinnamon

Well, it worked okay for a few weeks, but has recurred in the last few days. This time it's the letter 'l' which goes missing (previously it was 'n'.)

It doesn't affect any text within browser screens, however.

Re: Fix for Missing Fonts/Letters in Cinnamon

Thanks. Working for the moment, but the acid test will be if it's still behaving in a couple of weeks time.

I will post result.

Re: Missing letter 'N'

Even silly: We have no idea, which system you use at all. What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? If you don't know open a terminal and enter: inxi -Sz Paste the output here. You need to give this information for every help request in every thread. Do not forget this in th...

Actually, it's:

It puts a space where the n should be!

Missing letter 'N'

This is possibly the silliest thing I've encountered. The letter 'n' (both case) disappears from all the system stuff eg desktop, file directory etc but is fine in applications eg Libre Office, Web browser etc. Rebooting cures it, but within a few days the problem returns. Always the letter 'n'. Is ...

Re: Mint 18 Blank DvD not detected

Thanks so much. That could solve the mystery, if as indicated the drive is read only. It was an old (but not ancient) 64 bit Thinkpad I bought. Since my really old (2009) 32bit Dell Latitude had a functioning read&write DvD drive, it didn't occur to me that anything made later would only have a read...

Re: Mint 18 Blank DvD not detected

SORRY - HUMBLE PIE SERVED IN DISH.

Maybe it is a hardware problem as booting the laptop in Windows 7 exhibits exactly the same problem ie reading from but not writing to the optical drive.

Bah, who uses CD or DvD for data storage anyway nowadays....

Re: Mint 18 Blank DvD not detected

Well K3B doesn't see the blank DvD either. Useful to know I can use it in Cinnamon though. Thanks!

Re: Mint 18 Blank DvD not detected

I've never had any problem with this brand before. Xfburn doesn't see it. I've not tried K3B as it's KDE only isn't it, and I'm using Cinnamon. I'm into my fifth Mint Distro and the problems are NEVER hardware related, in my experience. It's always a software problem, and usually some kind soul has ...

Mint 18 Blank DvD not detected [SOLVED]

Believe me, I've checked out many threads on this issue, and as often the case with these things there are a hundred different suggestions but no definitive answer. I'm simply trying to back up some data on DvD. However, the file system simply won't detect the blank DvD, although it will see previou...

Re: Bluetooth - general question

No, loading Blueman was the first thing I did. On Google I found some people (like yourself) who were successful, plenty of others like me who weren't. I find this is often the case with Linux Software/Drivers - it's almost as though each individual person's machine has a mind of its own! Woo, scary...

Bluetooth - general question

There are lots of people who seem to have problems with Bluetooth in Mint, and I'm no exception. It worked fine in 14, pretty useless in 17, and now 18 is no better. It's no big deal for me - I will wire to speakers, and if necessary to file transfer I will go through the admittedly cumbersome proce...

Mint 18

I've just installed 18 and am currently running two laptops, one with Mint 17, and this one with 18. A couple of irritants: (1) The keyboard layout says it's UK, but it isn't. I can't get the @ symbol to be where it should be ie the shifted 2. I have to use the shifted ' (which means to get " I have...

Doh! I should have noticed you are in The Netherlands!

Is it straightforward to load Openstreetmaps into a Garmin Nuvi 250?
