Re: 20.1 not shutting down

The problem won't go away. It freezes on shutdown (see above image) and I have to shut down manually. It has never happened with Sylvia which was running beautifully without any issues. Can anybody suggest a cure? I would be most grateful.

Re: Linux Mint 13 has reached end of life

Moreover, I'm FORCED to stay with LM 13 because my old PC (Athlon 64 x2, 2GB RAM) has a crappy Igpu that prevent x-server to start when installing Linux. I've tried many workarounds, but no luck. Today I tried LMDE 2, and no, wont' install because the x-server problem. I don't remember exactly what...

Packard Bell laptop [SOLVED]

I have an old 32-bit Packard Bell laptop with an unsupported Linux Mint 13 which I would like to replace with a 32-bit distro. I have tried a few that have proved incompatible with CPU, etc. Can anyone suggest a suitable distro? I am unable to upload full hardware details at the moment. It's an EASY...

Re: Ulyssa 20.1 MATE feels sluggish

Thanks for your reply. I'll try somewhere else. With Sylvia everything was running beautifully on my PC (32-bit/64-bit compatible) but unfortunately, its end of life is coming up soon... I beg to differ, others DO have issues like mine. Have u read other threads?

Ulyssa 20.1 MATE feels sluggish [SOLVED]

I haved just installed Ulyssa 20.1 MATE (alongside Sylvia/Sonya) on my PC. First impressions: sluggish, not as fast as previous distros, slow to boot and shut down, slow to open some pages and experiencing the odd freeze. Does it need polishing? Is anybody out there having similar problems? Thanks f...

Re: Font sizes

Thanks again Flemur. One thought: if I uninstall/reinstall Firefox, would it solve the problem? I would of course first backup my home files. On this machine I am running a dual partition with 18.3 and 18.2. 18.2 is the one with the Firefox issue. Is Pluma the editor of Mate? Never used it. I very r...

Re: Font sizes

Sorry...I'm in trouble again through my own fault. I tried to change back the size of menu bars with about:config (pix> layout.css.devPixelsPerPx) from 1.50 to 1.25 but I typed 1.35 instead and now Firefox won't open. Is it fixable? Thanks.

Re: Selecting updates manually.

Hello, riki. Although Flemur had already suggested something this effect in his post, let me state quite clearly: Linux Mint Update Manager offers updated software packages only for software which has been installed on your system before. To use your example of Mate and Cinnamon: Provided on your s...

There might be the chance, that there is a Cinnamon library used in the Mate DE. Mark the update and see in the description below, which package will actually be updated. If this is an update for a package, which gets used in Mate, than you should apply the update.
I get you. Thanks.

Re: Selecting updates manually.

I have been updating everything that comes through on Levels 1, 2 and 3 (recently quit 4 and 5 to avoid problems) and my question is: should I allow EVERY single update? In other words, for example, if I am running Mate, should I allow a Cinnamon update? Or is a Cinnamon update automatically ignore...
