Re: QT applications don't save window position in Cinnamon

Another thing I noticed is that Skype window moves along the desktop every time i minimize/maximize it from the system tray. It sort of like a typewriter, after enough times i have to reposition the window so that it doesn't go off the screen. There's definitely something weird going on with qt apps...

QT applications don't save window position in Cinnamon

Hi, this isn't really a problem (it's just annoying) but has anyone else noticed that QT applications (Clementine, Virtualbox, Skype) don't save their position when they're closed? http://i.imgur.com/oCfTiITs.jpg Image above shows what I'm talking about. Every app that was close to desktop edge gets...

How to free up system memory used by integrated graphics?

Recently I got my hands on a new graphics card, nvidia gt630. I have intel g530 CPU, which of course has integrated graphics. Thing that bugs me is that system reports 7.8GB of RAM out of the 8GB that I have installed even after i added the new card and switched over to discrete graphics. Is there a...

Re: Trouble updating? Solution provided here.

Thanks a lot for your response. I've already changed the download servers before I asked and everything works, but this question kinda bothered me, It doesn't hurt to ask.....
Cheers....

Re: Trouble updating? Solution provided here.

Thanks for this, these download servers have the same packages that the main server does, none of them are missing, right? And they are safe to use, are there some sort of security check's in place to make sure the packaged weren't tampered with by third parties?

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP6

This almost makes me wish I hadn't upgraded to UP6 already, but I discovered a great plus about UP6 last night: I can finally mount my external hard drive again! I think I spoke too soon. I tried to mount my external hard drive yesterday and I'm back to the "unable to enumerate" error. I'...

Re: Graphics are better in Mint 10 than they are in Mint 13

I'm using the open source drivers, ATI dropped support for this card a few years back and I can't use proprietary drivers with newer versions of kernel. Here's the output of lspci -k for VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] (rev 9e) ...

Graphics are better in Mint 10 than they are in Mint 13

Hello, I have an older PC with ATI Radeon X1650, and in Mint 13 graphics are awful. I run a game and the screen flickers, others are very slow, I'm talking about the ones from the Software Center. On Mint 10 everything works flawlessly, I can even boot into the LiveCD and the system without the nomo...

Re: Using thumb drive to install Linux Mint

Startup disk creator works without a hitch, i just installed LM on a netbook with a USB thumb drive created with it and everything went fine, it was actually faster. But first make sure that your computer can boot from the USB, if it doesn't have a DVD drive, perhaps it's too old to be able to do it...

Re: Audio starts late in VLC

Is it the same for every video? I've come across videos which work fine in one player, and then not so fine in another. Perhaps the video is the problem, and if not, I remember having problems with VLC and audio not being in sync and that it was a bug, perhaps it's that. I don't have any other idea,...

Re: Watch tv on linux Mint 13

Try and install Kaffeine, I don't know how much KDE packages it will pull, if you're using the main edition. I'm using Linux Mint 13 KDE and was surprised to find out that my Terratec DVB-S2 card was recognized automatically, perhaps drivers/firmware were/was added to the newer kernel releases? Inst...

Switching to Mint for good, need hardware advice

Hello everyone, well I'm planning on switching to Mint for good. The only thing that's causing me problems is my printer, which is Epson Stylus DX4450 All-in-One. Printer works out of the box, but printing is very slow, i'm pretty sure that more ink is consumed when compared with Windows printing, I...

Re: Please keep supporting the MATE desktop.

Font's aren't a problem on my end, and I don't use screenlets or the other thing that you mentioned I changed fonts and they are ok now, I realize that there are still some glitches with MATE, for example, editing menus, alacarte, which is what gnome used doesn't work, and I can't seem to find a GUI...

Re: Please keep supporting the MATE desktop.

That's just it, I don't really see those alternatives, everything has moved up to KDE or gnome 3. KDE at least KDE 4 I can't use, It's just too much of a plastic feeling if I do, plus it uses a lot of resources. Gnome 3 has been striped down of a lot of functionality that gnome 3 had, not just becau...

Re: Adding a personal item to the main menu

This is exactly what's bugging me at the moment, does anyone know if there's some kind of config file that can be edited, in order to make the mate menu display the way we want it to? I installed wine and it's entry is also placed under Other , alacarte shows it correctly in it's own category, but m...

Re: Please keep supporting the MATE desktop.

I agree with OP, PLEASE DON'T ABANDON MATE!!!!!

Gnome 3/shell/msege/cinnamon/whatever cannot replace what gnome2/mate offers, and not everyone is absolutely positively amazed by how this cinnamon thing looks.....
