Re: [SOLVED] Which Wine should I get for 19.1?

In the WINE config, I notice the default is to run as "Win 7".

Is this recommended, and if so, has anyone tried choosing Win 10, instead?

What's going to be different, if anything? Is it better to stay w/Win 7 for compatibility sake?

Thanks.

The link I found seemed reasonable.

Your admonishment was a bit much, but thanks for the pointer.

Re: [SOLVED] Which Wine should I get for 19.1?

Hi folks,

I followed the directions at:

https://www.pcsteps.com/10463-install-w ... dows-apps/

However, if I now update, I'm getting this:

How to fix?

Auto-mounted drives not accessible, 19.1 live, Win 10

I have a new windows PC and an old Win HDD connected to it via external dock. I'm trying to copy data out from a dead mobo/old PC & onto the 2TB internal new Win 10 PC's drive. Both drives auto-mount, but I can't rename, copy, nor create folder on either of them (grayed-out). There are no errors and...

Virtualbox fails to open, was working fine? Mate 17.1

So, I use VB about 3 times a week. It's never had an issue, really. Just now, I tried to open it and got an error about DKMS and a kernel mismatch. I ran the cmd it said to run and nothing changed. I thought I might as well uninstall VB, restart the computer, and reinstall the newest VB version that...

Re: Compiz lost minimise, maximise, close buttons-- why?

I dropped into the hexchat and tried the following: helper> you can try deleting your compiz config perhaps? or does it have a reset config button? helper> find ~ -iname '*compiz*' me> do you mean in my home folder? hidden folders? > I put that command into the terminal & got a weird output > can I ...

Solved: Compiz lost minimise, maximise, close buttons-- why?

Hi all, I honestly have zero idea when/how compiz got ruined. I realized that the desktop cube wasn't working (I don't use it much). I went into the compiz settings from the menu to see if anything was unchecked, but it all looked fine. So, I closed out of it & as soon as I closed that window, the b...

Re: Mint Advanced Menu, "Couldn't load plugin" appears from nowhere? Other menus work?

I just deleted that zip file and it's back working- thanks. Still doesn't explain why that advanced menu dies out every so often, but oh well. And, yeah, I know it's an "old one"-- just that I'm used to it. I've been thinking about upgrading and even grabbed a deal on a 1TB SSD in anticipation. Than...

I decided to have a look at one of the locations in error. This is re: line 48.

Re: Mint Advanced Menu, "Couldn't load plugin" appears from nowhere?

A bit more info: That error appeared when I added the advanced mint menu to the panel. For a while now, the menu would fail to load at boot and it would ask me if I wanted to keep or delete it-- I would say delete & then recreate it. It happens about once a week, but it didn't bother me because it w...

Re: Mint Advanced Menu, "Couldn't load plugin" appears from nowhere?

Not sure why that shutter photo turned out such poor quality? I've done another, which is clearer https://imgur.com/a/WrgvEtz.

Can you explain in layman's terms, what,

rm -rf ~/.config/mintmenu/.thumbnails

is doing? Also, are there spaces between the / and the . ?

Thanks for your help!

Re: ddrescue, need help cloning failing drive, “successful read: 0 s ago”

I've run the "everything" against the image/clone to no avail.

Data must have been destroyed in the ruined recovery (system restore) which was tried many times ahead of my getting the pc.

Re: ddrescue, need help cloning failing drive, “successful read: 0 s ago”

I think I've used Photorec in the past...Is Testdisk/Photorec the recovery which makes hundreds of folders with stuff in them but all renamed to nonsense? I'm trying (if possible) to end up with a semblance of a file structure.

Thanks for your reply.

Re: ddrescue, need help cloning failing drive, “successful read: 0 s ago”

What was recovered did not include over a GB of folders and their contents. I still am puzzled that the manufacturers software tagged the drive as failing + two different live Linux "disks" utilities showed 1215 bad sectors, yet the recovery shows only 1. I tried two, commercial recovery programs an...

Re: ddrescue, need help cloning failing drive, “successful read: 0 s ago”

The reason I posted that was as I said, it showed “successful read: 0 s ago” the entire time. The Linux Mint 18.3 USB, disks, showed 1215 bad sectors. Later, DFT, (for Hitachi) showed a failing drive. I found it a bit crazy there was only 1 error reported. Hence, I included that. What has shown in t...

Text link might help you decide what you want to do/achieve.

I have a small SSD with / & /home + a 10k HDD for my main folders (docs, downloads, music, pictures, videos). They're under /mnt/storage.
