Re: How to verify same data exists on two drives?

Appreciate that.

I'm asking for a "there you go" sort of thing. Surely a compare dir is avail w/a "run this" to copy two dissimilar to an output folder sans duplicates?

Cheers

Re: How to verify same data exists on two drives?

I've used rsync with the -n option.

I've also used a graphical program ... I'll need to find the name of it ...

FreeFileSync and I think Grsync can do it.

Specific cmd?

How to verify same data exists on two drives?

Hi all, A strange issue. I'm in the middle of going through multiple external/thumb drives and copying them out to two, 4TB externals in a dock. Once that's done, I can format the smaller disks and sell them off/give away. Issue is that checking properties, sometimes they are the same size, sometime...

Re: How to burn a bootable Win 10 Dual-layer DVD in Mint?

Hi all,

I ended up going with xfburn and the DVD booted and installed fine. At least I'll have Win 10/2004 ready in case it comes up again.

Thank you

@antikythera

I would, except,

"I haven't had to burn a DVD in quite a while (usually boot from USB), but the older laptop I have here has no USB detection during BIOS boot-up"

Joefootball.

Rather than phrase a comment as a dig, why not say, "you may need to check if your burner supports DL".

The laptop I'm using to do the burn is a Blu-ray drive. Hope it's up to the task. Thanks for the feedback.

Solved: How to burn a bootable Win 10 Dual-layer DVD in Mint?

Hi all, I'm helping someone install Win 10 on a laptop which is Win 7, corrupted. I haven't had to burn a DVD in quite a while (usually boot from USB), but the older laptop I have here has no USB detection during BIOS boot-up. So, DVD is the only way I can go. Being that the newest Win 10 .ISO is 5....

No screen-tearing, but you're legend for coming back to make sure.

Wish this world was more full of people like you.

@DAMIEN1307 and everyone else: Peppermint seems the go. It's the snappiest whilst still containing the things I find useful-- open window in a new tab, software center, familiar and intuitive even for new folks. As I say, I'll be selling it off so want to be able to give a quick demo of how it works...

@DAMIEN1307

I'll give it a spin. Now, the question: am I better off with 32 bit over 64, even though it's a 64 bit CPU due to higher RAM usage by 64?

Re: Mint on 2GB RAM is slow, what's the best alternative?

I've tried all you suggested so far, including XFCE Mint, Bodhi, Budgie, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Lite, and others. It does have an SSD. Maybe I just have a dud CPU/SSD, but man, XP flies on it? I'm surprised at how poor the above run on this netbook. I suppose I'll just need to tweak it as much as p...

Solved: (at least for me) Mint on 2GB RAM is slow, what's the best alternative?

Hi all, I've tried many of the so-called "light" Linux and, so far, they're pretty awful. This is a 2010 NF310 netbook which, inexplicably, was designed with a 2GB maximum (even though it's 64 bit, N450 Atom could handle more!). Thanks, Samsung! I'm so used to Mint now that everything else...

Not sure exactly what "lost" you there Doesn't matter-- you're an extremely lovely person to over-simplify it for me (& others who may follow, I'm sure). My son is a software developer and he actually thinks that "anyone" could do what he does, not understanding that "s...

Re: Mint 19.3, Win 10 dual-boot disaster! Help?

@arvy " As I suspected, the os-prober entries for launching Windows are relying on the drive's master boot record (MBR) which is no longer valid for that purpose. To correct the problem, in each grub.cfg menuentry above, just change the last chainloader +1 line to ntldr /bootmgr. One of those c...

Re: Mint 19.3, Win 10 dual-boot disaster! Help?

Just seeing this and must to go to sleep. Will let you know how it went, my-tomorrow. Data is backed-up (SSD to HDD data drive) and we're prepared to wipe and reinstall Win 10 to the SSD. I feel I've run all possible commands from both OS's & their live media. I just don't know enough about grub...
