Lost Internet access after installing VirtualBox
Just rebuilt my main system with some new components and did a clean re-install of V20.2. Then started adding some packages I need but hit a problem almost immediately. Installed VirtualBox so I could have a Win10 Guest for a couple of bits of software that only run in Windows and once I had complet...

Is it me? [SOLVED - Yes, it was me]
I am looking to add a Windows 10 64bit VM as there is software I need to run which is Windows only. My preference is to use VirtualBox because it is fairly simple but no matter what I do it only offers 32bit selections for the guest OS. I did a complete wipe/rebuild of the LMV20.2 followed by VB but...

Re: So I am confused (again)
Yes, that was why I picked the LMDE as I had a seamless install on a 'current release' Debian system

So I am confused (again)
This is not an uncommon state of mind for me and I am once again reliant of people who have clear thought process to bring me out of this state. The story starts:- I need to use some software which comes in Debian flavour and which has install instructions for Ubuntu, so far so good....if it works i...

Re: [SOLVED] Lost cores
Oh dearie me....now sat quietly but very red faced. As someone who screams blue murder when users don't follow basic 'how-to' guides it is more than a little embarrassing to have managed to pick the wrong flavour of distro. Installed the PAE and now all four 'cores' are back to life. Now back to my ...

Re: Lost cores
I'm having a go at putting in the PAE as at least one package I use is a little sniffy about using 64bit.....Could be all OK but I will use the minimal change route

Tried the command as mentioned but it did not like the 'z' option so here is the output from 'inxi -Fx' System: Host yerknow Kernel 3.2.0-4-486 i686 (32 bit) Distro Linux Mint Debian Edition CPU: Single core Intel Core i5 M 540 (-UP-) cache 3072 KB flags (lm nx sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx)...

[SOLVED] Lost cores
This one has me completely stumped..... Installed Mint Debian on the system almost as soon as 14 came out and everything in the garden was rosy. Applied the updates as recommended and everything still seemed fine but I was having some issues recently with BOINC and when I checked, only one computati...

Re: Is it just me? SOLVED (Doh!)
OK, OK...it's been a very long week today....finally realised I hadn't searched for answers first and when I looked there it was......seems like I am not the only one to have fallen at this hurdle and hopefully there is a fix being tested even as I type.....

Is it just me? - SOLVED
I really am trying hard to get to grips with Linux and I know that there are areas where a little learning isn't enough but I keep hitting brick walls where I don't believe there should be any. This morning I wanted to print out a document I had created but I had not added my network printer since u...

Re: Aeroplane Mode is killing me
Oh F.F.F.F.For heaven's sake......... Everyone ignore me as I forgot the golden rule, never underestimate the stupidity of a user, especially if you are that user. Disconnected the USB stick I had plugged in to the laptop and there hiding underneath was the switch to turn the wifi on/off, fir...

Re: Aeroplane Mode is killing me
Thanks for that Richrich, I had found that one and setup IP Address etc (I don't use DHCP here so that's always an early step). My problem seems to be centred very much on the Aeroplane mode. I have found bits which say that this blocks wifi/bluetooth but nothing which says how to turn it on/off. I ...

[Solved] Aeroplane Mode is killing me
I have no wireless available and after going through all the posts I am stumped. It seems that Aeroplane mode is permanently selected on (despite 'appearing' to turn off when I click it) which is disabling my wireless. I'm running Mint 12 (64 bit) on a Dell Latitude with a Broadcom BCM4322 but even ...

Re: SD Card Reader
Sadly no. I am just living with it by putting the card in before startup any time I have photos to transfer. Not sure how long this laptop will last anyway so I guess I will just have to carry on as is

SD Card Reader
Just changed from Mint 9 to Mint 10 and although everything looks good I have one problem. The internal SD card reader does not recognise inserting a card whilst running and logged in. If however I shut the PC down, insert the card and then turn it back on it can see the card. Whilst it was still on...

Removing alternate Dual boot OS
This may be something already answered though I couldn't find it with the searches I ran so... I rebuilt my laptop repeatedly with different flavours of Linux and most recently as dual-boot with Mint 9.0 and OpenSUSE as I was not sure which best suited how I wanted to work and I was trying to work t...
