Delete Key Still Sends Files to Trash

Hey LM Gurus, Every time I delete a file by hitting the delete key on the keyboard, it sends the file to trash. I do not want to send it to trash. I want to delete the index entirely (at least until the next write-over). :| I do not know what I did to make this auto copy to trash. Maybe it has never...

Re: Broken images after moving from LM 13 to LM 15

I am having the same issue, I just have not troubleshooted this yet. Here are my images. You will notice that one image did not load as it was supposed to, one image loaded partway along with another and both were in the wrong locations. Image Issue.png Image Issue 2.png I am running Cinnamon by the...

Re: Trouble with the menu and the clock in Mint.

You might go and see what those broken packages are. You can usually fix them through Synaptic. If that doesn't work, you may want to back up your files and do a clean install from a new .iso/disc. I would check the MD5 to make sure the files have been downloaded correctly. For Libre Office, go to: ...

Re: Backup Tool (mint-backup) hangs when reaching parcellit

After further investigation (banging my head against the wall—welcome to Linux!), it is not the permissions, as I made sure the directory was changed recursively, but two files within the parcellite directory: fifo_c & fifo_p (pipe files for copy and paste?). I cannot just kill them because they wil...

Backup Tool hangs when reaching parcellite [bug reported]

Dear Mintys, When using mint-backup, application hangs i.e.: stops when it encounters the .local/share/parcellite files (fifo_c, fifo_p, hist.test, & history). This is really annoying since I back-up at night and if I fail to exclude the directory, I wake up and find the Backup tool stalled—like a V...

Save As dialogs annoyingly show hidden files [solved]

Hi Guys (and Gals)! I run into this quite a bit so I really need to find a way to fix it: while saving a file (like a *.jpg) with firefox and other applications, the save as dialog box shows every single .( dot )file in my home directory. It is all so much clutter. I mean, when is the last time that...

Re: cairo overlapping windows

I have my dock on the top as well but I chose to have the dock dissapear when it overlaps other windows . I think that cairo-dock has a lot of transparency and that may be the best solution. The other options might be to mess around with window/dock placements in configuration files, something I am ...

Re: Edit menu order move up/down buttons greyed out

Thank you for the replies mdavies5, Move up/down implies that one can select an application and move it up or down in the hierarchy, not just by prefixing the entries. The whole point is to have those apps you use most frequently at the top of the list. One reason users are moving to other methods l...

Edit menu order move up/down buttons greyed out

Here is what is going on: 1. I will right-click on the main menu in the taskbar and choose to edit menu. 2. I will select a category such as: Music & Video. 2. I will highlight a program such as: VLC media player. 3. The Move Up/Move Down buttons are greyed out. Please tell me that this is a bug and...

Re: How do I remove Movie Player? [solved]

Here is an update for those of you who have installed Linux Mint 15 “Olivia”. You may find that you have a "movies" entry in your main menu or that when you open a media file, a sub-par movie/media player opens up. Somehow, you cannot associate all the video media files to VLC. You will soon grow to...

Re: [SOLVED] how to stop/start or restart x-server Mint 13 C

To: manuleka and Lord_Eager,

sudo service mdm stop and
sudo mdm start

Thank you for this post. :) I had been looking for an alternate way to restart X if it ever freezes. When it is still working, I use the BetterSettings applet.

It seems that Gdebi install opens up a lot when Linux Mint does not know what to do. The issue has now been resolved, yet I forgot what had happened to fix it.

Gdebi and external drive usb hot plug [solved]

Hey Mint gurus! This is a baffling one for me (after searching gdebi external drives ) as I have come up with nothing. Whenever I hot-plug the USB for my external drive backup, it opens the deb-install application. One partition of the drive is NTFS, another is ext4 (Winblows & Linux Back-up respect...

Shaded Vertical Strip remains on laptop [Solved]

Okay, this is really odd: there is a shaded strip that is in the middle of my desktop about two inches in width. It shades any windows that are open as well (always on top). It appears when I boot into Windows as well. Has anyone else experienced this? If I shut down my computer or reboot a couple o...

Re: Installing Broadcom drivers - without the internet

The driver files are stored somewhere in Windows or you can download them from the Internet. I think HP has them, you just have to input your computer model and they will tell you what driver you need. Save your driver in a file for future use, you never know when you may want to install from scratc...

Oh, I did not get that Movie Player was actually Totem. Removed it effectively. I think that Firefox has plug-ins for VLC as well, although I have never used any of these plug-ins for Firefox anyway. Re: What is the command for Ctrl+Alt+Del?

My meager understanding of the process is that you have to define 'nice' levels for certain processes. I found an article about that here: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/14878.html There is a way to set all of your programs this way, but it just may be a case of just one or two. Wheneve...

How do I remove Movie Player? [solved]

Okay, I am feeling really dumb here. I just installed mint less than a week ago (Isadora 9) and I can not find this thing in Synaptic or the Software manager. I removed something called M Player completely. I much prefer VLC. Why, why, why is this not included by default? Movie Player is kind of her...
