Re: x11vnc and small desktop resolution
Well, not a fix, just a workaround... I found a monitor and plugged it in, rebooted and let the display come up, unplugged the monitor. Now my VNC works fine. Luckily the box is in the same house. :/ I think the editing the X11 conf file to get the dummy resolutions would work... I just need to figu...

Re: x11vnc and small desktop resolution
I did find one possible fix that suggested I install the 'dummy' xorg driver... which I did... then edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf ...which I don't have! I don't seem to have an xorg.conf *facepalm* So I found something else that said run "X -configure" so that I can then copy the conf file it cr...

x11vnc and small desktop resolution
I'm using x11vnc server on one machine for months just fine. I let that box do a software update and reboot, and now I cannot get the server to display anything but 320x200. Just a little tiny box that squished the whole desktop into it. My /lib/systemd/system/x11vnc.service doesn't have a -geometry...

make mate-panel --reset permanent? Prevent doubling?
Linux Mint 18.1 64bit with Mate, and starting a couple weeks ago, whenever I reboot, the desktop restarts with everything on the task bar doubled: Two clocks, two Menu buttons, two sets of status panels, etc. I found if I run mate-panel --reset in terminal, it gets rid of the duplications (and natur...

Burning 3-ISO image as one DVD??
I have an archive of a movie I own*, it's in three ISOs: a loading file, a DVD menu, and the VIDEO_TS.iso that has all the film files. I don't know if this is the right forum, but, how do I combine/burn them as one proper DVD? Since blank DVDs are a-plenty, I went ahead and just tried to Brasero bur...

Incorrect power on hours in SMART? Reset?
I just received a refurbished 2TB Hitachi hard drive. Naturally, the first thing I did was load up GSmartControl to look at the SMART info on it. Attribute 9, Power-On Hours, has a raw value of 1 hour! Is that possible? Attribute 12, Power Cycle Count, has a value of 1. Surely a refurbished HD is go...

CPU drops to min despite BIOS settings
This is probably more a general hardware question, but not sure where else to ask. I have: Linux Mint 18 (Sarah) 64bit (Linux 4.4.0-36-generic) $ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model name' | uniq model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz and it used to say 1.60GHz there, until I went into ...

Panel items duplicate on each reboot
Using Mint 18 with MATE, and all of a sudden starting last night (after about 3 weeks of using this install), all the panel objects of been duplicating themselves when I restart the machine. Two "Menu" buttons, two file browser icons side by side, two terminal icons, two time/dates, etc. E...

Re: Plz help with (all) desktop(s) crashing.
Well, I went ahead and clean installed Mint 14.1 32bit and everything's working fine.
Wish I could say the fix was in the 14.1 and the new kernel or mdm or drivers, or if it was the 32bit instead of 64. In any case, all's well and that's good enough.

Re: Plz help with (all) desktop(s) crashing.
So, I wonder if all this can be solved by installing the 32bit version of Mint?
Would running the 32bit OS on a 64bit system cause any issues?

Plz help with (all) desktop(s) crashing.
I have Linux Mint 13 64bit (MATE) on a Dell Optiplex 755 with an NVIDIA NVS 300 (512MB). Ever since I installed Mint 13 (clean), after I do any number of things, the desktop will crash and I get dropped back out to the desktop login. Usually when I open Chromium, and always when I try to open the se...

Re: Why the desktop keeps crashing? Driver?
I run Linux as the host OS. VB isn't the root of the problem here because the desktop crashes for entirely non-VB-related instances. Like opening Chromium. I mention VB heavily because of the whole 3D acceleration, it works, then it doesn't, and the ways it's pointing, I think, to a video adapter /d...

Why the desktop keeps crashing? Driver?
I have Linux Mint 13 64bit (MATE) on a Dell Optiplex 755 with an NVIDIA NVS 300 (512MB). After finally getting the display running (and honestly, after all this time, I don't recall what I did to finally get a working xorg.conf, but I did finally get one), after I do any number of things, the deskto...

X keeps crashing on me
I tried to recently installed (fresh) Mint 13-MATE, 64bit. It has X server 1.11.3. Ever since, the desktop will occasionally crash and drop me back to the login screen. At first I thought it was just a VirtualBox issue as it would happen whenever I tried to go into VB settings, but it does it (thoug...

Re: No Internet in Virtual Box
Found a Simple Solution to the Connectivity Problem in Virtualbox: 1. Set the Network setting to NAT in Virtualbox settings for WinXP. 2.
