Re: Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

Remastersys is pretty cool. 1.5GB iso burned and runs as a live session with my files, background, even my custom scripts and launchers. I'm running it now ;))) Remaster reported not being able to resolve internet connections (it was OFF) but did say to close all apps, like wvdial, so I thought. All...

Re: Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

gn2,

remastersys

I added it to Package Manager and installed it - thanks.

I like the clearly written pop-up describing the options and its simple syntax - a new approach for me and EZ.

Will give it a try when the cache, temps user name requirements are met.

Re: Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

SOLVED in a Terminal: sudo nautilus (gives full root power to nautilus) change to / directory CNTL-a to select ALL right click for Compress nautilus has tar gzip BUILT IN (yeah, it was under my nose the whole time!! LoL!) select a drive-path on different media (flash, HDD etc) and it does the rest. ...

Re: Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

OK, partial solution: APTonCD is a program which was already installed on my Mint installations. I THINK it was from the original disk, so it qualifies as a built-in function. APTtoCD launched into a GUI that identified the packages and dependencies of the current system and created an ISO on a stor...

Re: Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

Thanks for the Reply. The Mint Backup Tool, a two step process, saving once for 'files' and another time for 'software selection', both into one folder "MintBackup", resulted in a folder size (MintBackup) of 128.8Mb for the 4.7Gb installation. That's either astonishingly efficient compress...

Backup=copy from / and recuse subs RIGHT?

This being Linux, the games of a for-profit OS are absent. So copying an install and its packages etc should be easy, no? So if I simply do a sudo nautilus go to the root directory/ click Show Hidden Files Select ALL and copy-paste it to another drive-folder I can use that drive-folder to clone the ...

Re: Gmount-iso how to mkdir cdrom??

somehow my ISO got corrupted whilst transferring to the new system. A 6Gb file onto a 16Gb usb flash drive *should* work. but after cutting it down to multiple smaller files all was OK. I used: sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom sudo mount -o loop /home/me/ALLBACKUP.iso /mnt/cdrom and all was well, THANKS but mo...

Re: Gmount-iso how to mkdir cdrom??

Thanks for the reply.

I used Gmount-iso, a GTK wrapper for GUI access.

I wish i knew the command line calls it uses.
Probably similar to your example.

You example gave the same error message in dmesg
interesting?

Gmount-iso how to mkdir cdrom??

My new install of Linux Mint 9 and Gmount-iso (from the Package Manger) won't mount an iso that Mint 8 had no problems with. I get; "An error occured wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error" from Gmount-iso and dmesg says ...

Compiz Key Bindings- I killed my mouse right click

I accidently assigned the Mouse-Right-click button binding while setting Key Bindings in Compiz Settings Manager. Now I can't Right Click in the Desktop or any other function. Yes, I went through all the Compiz settings and ensured the Mouse-Right-Click button was no longer assigned to any thing. He...
