Re: After updating/upgrading, no wireless is possible.

You've never had to install a Proprietary Driver in the past?

I'm not sure this is the problem, but it may be a possibility. Possible it changed the path to the Driver already installed.

Re: Wireless Card problem

LXDE is a more minimalistic approach, but it has very nice features in it's own right.

I use LMDE (Debian Edition) at home, but you should be in pretty good shape with LXDE.

Re: Creating a shared /data folder

If I understand the question correctly, you should be able to mount /home and achieve the same results, regardless of OS. This allows you to get to the files in the /home which is where most of your information should be. The problem you may run into is with the hidden config files. Just A Thought, ...

Re: Startup problems

A couple of questions: 1) Is this an External Drive, possibly a USB Connection? 2) Did you point Grub to dev/sdc? There is a good Tutorial about creating a Persistent Install of LMDE to a Thumbdrive. I imagine the concept would be the same. It works for 32Bit as well. http://forums.linuxmint.com/vie...

It may be a typo, but: 2.63 35-22 genlric Should be 2.6.35-22 Generic. That is the Kernal in Julia, or the modules thereof. Do you still have the LiveCD, DVD or USB? Is this your first time trying to get into Mint? Did you verify the MD5Checksums? Did you burn the CD at a slow speed (12 or less)? Th...

Re: help install mint from a pendrive

Sounds like you used UnetBootin. I generally have to select Linux Mint and hit enter, then once again select Linux Mint and hit enter. It generally starts from there. Try it again, but this time do not move your mouse or press any buttons when the boot options screen is displayed It will take a bit ...

Re: Question about installing Mint LXDE

My question is: I have a separate '/home' partition on the laptop. If I just install Mint LXDE to the '/' partition will my Desktop settings be screwed up when I reboot? It would be nice if I didn't have to reformat '/home' Back up your system using Clonezilla or something to that effect prior to t...

This is how I fixed my wireless issue on a Lenovo T410.

The procedures should be similar, but make sure you read the text file with the Driver you downloaded.

Could you running the following in terminal:

Re: XFCE - latest version 9?

You can follow the testing process here: http://community.linuxmint.com/iso XFCE Julia 10 has not entered this process yet, and the XFCE Dev currently has more important things to take care of in his life. Once that settles down, he'll have one in testing soon after I'm sure. He has a thread here: h...

Re: Errors updating LMDE-64, running apt-get, SMXI, etc...

Maybe you should try debdelta. If I understand correctly, it compares the old packages to the new packages, and replaces only the differences. There is a thread here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=65708 that may be of assistance. It would probably be a better update route for...

I've heard there were some issue's with X, but I'm not sure what they are personnally. I haven't had any issue's with my machine based on testing as of yet, and I generally allow all updates to come in.

Re: My laptop is getting hot with LMDE

When you add a kernel, it will show up in your grub menu. Select which kernel you want to use, and always keep the default in the Grub menu. If the new kernel goes south, you can always boot in to the default, go to Package Manager and remove the offending kernel. There is really nothing scary about...

Re: Not so newbie question ?

You could add some unstable and experimental repos, but thats not very advisable right now. If you're used to Ubuntu, they are based on unstable, except for the LTS Versions (Mint 9 and Lucid 10.04). It's up to you, but again, it's not very advisable. If you're going back to buntu, then you are alre...

Re: grub rescue>

That's strange.... If you can boot a LiveCD, you should bypass the Grub Boot altogether, load straight from the CD.

I'll see what I can turn up.
