Re: Nvidia clock speed much lower than it should be

From the little information I could find, apparently it could be that the clock speed isn't being reported properly, but supposedly the clock speed should be fine. For some reason, I can't just trust that assumption. :? It's too bad you can't overclock newer Nvidia cards under linux, because then I ...

Nvidia clock speed much lower than it should be

I just bought a Zotac card with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 GPU. It seems great, except when I look at the clock speed in the Nvidia settings, it says that it's at performance level 3 with a graphics clock speed of 549 Mhz. This seems rather low, since the card is supposed to have a clock speed of up ...

Re: Linux Mint 13 Maya freezes every day

I agree with everyone else here; try seeing if the graphics card is the point of error. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest turning using rcconf to turn off the "ondemand" daemon. Try that out for a while and see if that makes a difference. Just don't do anything too CPU-intense since your C...

Re: Help me buy a new graphics card

The GeForce GTX 660 seems like a pretty good deal, and a lot of the cards that fit most of my criteria on eBay are around the $200 range. Now I have a follow-up question for anyone with some input: Are there any manufacturers I should go for or avoid? Years ago I had a BFG card that was pretty good;...

Help me buy a new graphics card

My PNY Geforce GT (somethingorother) has a dead fan and is pretty much unusable. I'm ready to buy a new graphics card. Here are my criteria: - Preferrably an Nvidia card. - Most compatible with Linux Mint 13. - Around the price of $200. - Won't have tearing issues(nearly every graphics card I've use...

Re: How to watch Netflix on Linux Mint 13 (without a VM)

No, I'm not using an SSD. Also, the video actually does lag a little on my netbook, but at least I get good sound. It seems to work fine on my desktop computer, which also has a HDD.

How to watch Netflix on Linux Mint 13 (without a VM)

Because of Microsoft, Netflix hasn't officially supported Linux. For a while the best workaround I've found was to install TinyXP in Virtualbox and use Netflix in that. But booting up a while other operating system in a VM is a pain in the rear, and even running XP still takes up memory and CPU usag...

Re: [Solved] Linux video converters?

WinFF is a great FFmpeg frontent that makes it fairly easy to batch transcode videos.

Avidemux is an awesome tool that will also work, but you might only be able to transcode one video at a time.

Re: Cannot get Huawei E 220 to connect

I don't know if this helps, but in my search for Huawei E366 linux compatibility, I came across this guide for setting up Huawei cards in Linux. Maybe it'll help? https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:YKtIcJeR3lMJ:www.huaweidevice.co.in/Downloads/Linux-Installation-User-Guide.pdf+Guide+to+C...

Re: Question about mobile internet (and Tmobile Jet 2.0)

By the way, the Tmobile Jet 2.0 seems to be a rebranded Huawei E366. This is a good sign I think, since a lot of Huawei stuff seems to have Linux kernel support. But I don't see much info on the E366.

Question about mobile internet (and Tmobile Jet 2.0)

I'm kind of asking 2 questions at the same time. I own an EeePc 1005HA and have LM13 on it. I take it everywhere with me, but sometimes I'd like the ability to access stuff like email and Google Maps when I'm not near a hotspot. What I'd like is a pay-as-you-go device that is compatible with Linux, ...

Re: dual display monitor issues cinnamon

My girlfriend recently had this problem after updating. She has an Nvidia card, and I fixed the issue by simply creating a new xorg.conf file and remaking the twinview settings.

Re: Adobe Ending Flash Support for Linux

Hopefully, as long as sites only develop flash content for current versions of flash, there won't be any problems. It's when sites like uStream update and use features of the absolute latest flash player that there are issues. If streaming video like that can be accomplished in another way, then fla...

Re: New Version type for Linux Mint 14 (browsers)

Actually, I think this is a pretty good idea. At least for the DVD version, anyway. Once a user is finished with the main part of the installation menu and while the system is installing, it could ask you something like "Want to choose which browsers you want?" and you can either ignore it...

Re: Avoiding display issues in Mint 14

I've never had a graphics card works as well in Mint as it did in Windows. Haven't tried ATI, but ever Nvidia or Intel card I've used has had some weird issue. Usually it's vsync issues. With multipule monitors, there's always some form of tearing. Even with a single screen, there's always a sort o...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

That's pretty much the reason why I haven't been using Cinnamon on my netbook. There's always a ridiculous delay on searches; everything else in Cinnamon seems to work okay but the menu is way too laggy. Cinnamon 2D is actually a little worse, I think. Turning off effects does very little to help th...

Re: midi support by default

I agree that midi should be supported by default, but as long as there are other usability issues, nobody is going to bother making a FOSS soundfont. Though honestly, I don't really know what it takes to make a soundfont.

Anyone who needs midi can easily install Qsynth.
