Re: Can't find BOIS update on USB drive

Forget about browser recommendation. Be sure there are two files (one 754Dv1x.txt and the BIOS one) on that USB fat 32 partition. I copied both the text file and the update file to the USB and it then listed the file. I have successfully updated the BIOS but I'm not sure why this worked. I thank ev...

Re: Can't find BOIS update on USB drive

I fail to see what the text file has to do with it. I have reached the part in M-Flash where you choose the file with the update date but no file is listed.

Re: Can't find BOIS update on USB drive

I searched all the drives that were listed and didn't find the file.

Why should the browser effect the download? The browser should not change the file.

[SOLVED] Can't find BOIS update on USB drive

I'm trying to update my BIOS but the update file is not listed on the USB drive. I have an MSI mobo which uses their built-in M-Flash app but when I get to the point where I am to select the update file, it's not listed. I tried reformatting the drive to msdos with FAT32 partition but that doesn't w...

Re: Update BIOS or Install OS first?

MiZoG wrote: Tue Dec 06, 2022 6:19 pm I beg to differ. It is generally good idea to have the latest BIOS version.
Especially since you build a new pc.
And most manufacturers have made it easy to update.
I agree. Best practice is to get the latest bug fixes and security patches.

Update BIOS or Install OS first?

I'm building myself a new PC and I was wondering if the first thing I should do once it's assembled is to update the BIOS or install Linux Mint? The motherboard has a USB port on it that can be used to update the BIOS without having to boot an OS. So which would be better?

Re: Grub error: Can’t find command ‘grub_platform’

Did you find a solution? There is one over on AskUbuntu . I tried it and it works but it is painfully slow. Like 1/10 the normal speed. Be prepared for long, long waits. If the USB drive is /dev/sdc : sudo gdisk /dev/sdc Enter r for transformation. Enter g for converting GPT to MBR. Enter w for writ...

Yeah, that's the real problem. :(

GRUB does print a message but it's gone so quickly I can't read it. The most I make out is that GRUB cannot find something, possibly a file.

Re: Can't install LM 21 from USB. BOOT FAIL.

The current Ubuntu live image is also doing the same thing!! I get to select the boot option for testing, safe mode, oem install, or memory test. After that tiff I get a flashing cursor in the top left and the screen is black. So, the plot thickens! I’m not sure it’s plot exactly but it’s definitel...

Re: Can't install LM 21 from USB. BOOT FAIL.

I tried and fail to install Linux Mint 21 MATE 64bit. I downloaded it twice and both times it fails. When ti starts, it prints out "GRUB" and then an error bit the screen changes too quickly for me to read the message. It then comes up with the menu but when I run Linux, the shows the text...

Re: DVD not automounting

I earlier inquired as to master/slave setting in that cable sense; if that's all fine please also make sure to just try a different cable. I tried another cable and same problem. I put the old cable on my hard drive and it works there, no problem. How do I determine the master/slave setting in the ...

I dug an old DVD/CD drive out and installed it and have the same problems. I tried various changes to the hardware but still the same. :( When I was tracking down another bug ("ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, While resolving a named reference package element"), I discovered this posting . This c...

Re: DVD not automounting

Try booting back into your 19.3 install dvd/usb and test the drive's operation while booted to the live desktop Try it. Drive still not working. Make sure your UserID is a member of the cdrom group, then logoff and logon again. I can't guarantee it will change anything but since you want to use the...

Re: DVD not automounting

Maybe but why would lshw report it if it was loose? Exactly. How sure are you of the timing? I.e., did the drive work just before adding the SSD or "some time before"? I do see it's ATAPI; really only thing I can think of that is not plain hardware failure is you having knocked of a maste...

Yes. That is the report with a DVD in the drive.

Already tried that. Several different ones. They worked before I added the SSD.
