Re: Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

Luke Seubert you might be right about several of the issues you raise above but you miss the point: - if you are testing a dev. iso LMDE-UP6-Mate-i386-dev-20130304-1839 there's just one place to give feedback: here http://community.linuxmint.com/iso (the issues you find in those builds are non-issu...

Re: Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

i believe that you are seriously mistaken: first, the place to post feedback about dev. releases is here >> http://community.linuxmint.com/iso second there's no point whatsoever to post issues in the forum about isos that in dev. testing Well, zerozero, I might be mistaken, but I doubt it. If you h...

Re: Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

LMDE-UP6-Mate-i386-dev-20130304-1839 The problem is now worse. After downloading, burning, and installing from DVD the above listed development release; I can not log in at all. From the graphical login screen, I can not log in as either root or user. From the tty console screens, I can not log in a...

Re: Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

those isos are at the moment in testing (as you can see in the community page) http://community.linuxmint.com/iso and will be made available public when ready Thanks for the comment, zerozero. Apparently Linux Mint has a semi-closed testing process, in that the most recent testing iso files are ava...

Re: Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

Regarding passwords being rejected after a fresh install, did your password have any special characters in it by chance? If so, that is a known bug in the RC and has since been fixed in the ISO's currently in testing. Yes, it did, as my passwords always do. I read through the bug report and webforu...

Anybody have root password problems with LMDE 201303 RC?

After a fresh install from a verified DVD of LMDE 201303 RC 32-bit Mate edition, I encountered a variety of problems with passwords, including a severe security problem with the root password. Re: LMDE MATE UP6 RC - Home files/folders appear on desktop

seppalta, I edited the .config/user-dirs.dirs file as you suggested, saved the file, and then ran xdg-user-dirs-update. After trying various combinations, including changing the Desktop location and eliminating that line from the config file entirely, I kept getting the same result. The files in my ...

[SOLVED] LMDE MATE UP6 RC - Home files appear on desktop

I recently installed LMDE UP6 MATE, 32bit edition onto a laptop with separate root and home partitions. I used the same user name in the new system as the old system had. (The previous system was Snow Linux, a distro based on Debian Testing.) I configured the LMDE installer to reformat the root part...

Re: Mint on the HP 2133 Mini-Note?

Just a quick note to those interested in Mint (or Ubuntu) on the HP Mini-Note. A new Ubuntu derivative called Minbuntu is in beta testing. It is the stock 8.04 Ubuntu Hardy Heron with OpenOffice removed and the necessary drivers and software installed to fully operate with the Mini-Note. More inform...

Thorough, picky review of Hardy Heron by Ars Technica

Good day all, I thought folks would find the Ars Technica review of Hardy Heron to be useful. Ars Technica usually does thorough reviews, as opposed to the all too common "This is what the install procedure is like and here is a pic of the default desktop" pseudo-reviews. While they mostly...

Re: Mint on the HP 2133 Mini-Note?

Almost, but not quite. For printing Daryna uses the same "system" as Feisty and there can be some differences in wifi. Thanks Husse. Yeah, there are differences in WiFi, that's for sure. Last weekend I took a shot at installing Heron onto a friend's laptop, one equipped with the dreaded B...

Mint on the HP 2133 Mini-Note?

Good day all, Has anybody installed Linux Mint on the HP 2133 Mini-Note laptop? If so, I am curious to know how well it plays back video. I have heard that the Via C-7 CPU has some problems handling video playback, but most of those complaints have come from people runnings Windows Vista or XP on th...

Is Hardy Heron a bit too buggy?

I have run Ubuntu based systems since back in the days of 5.04 - Hoary Hedgehog. The past few releases, Gutsy and Feisty, have been a little too buggy for my tastes, and so I switched over to Linux Mint. I have read a variety of reports on the net about regular Ubuntu users disillusioned with the st...
