Re: NO SOUND ON HDMI CONNECTION

I tried all of the work arounds with no joy and the proprietary driver wouldn't install so I'm back to Mint 13 as I use one of my machines as a media centre...

Shame really as one of the main issues with the wide spread uptake of Linux is lack of support for hardware :(

ralink 80211n wireless USB will not connect

Hi all, I am trying to set up the ralink 8022.11n wireless USB dongle on an old laptop running Isadora. Whilst the laptop attempts to connect it is unable to do so. When I put it into a new laptop running Mint 11 it highlights the firmware is missing. Google suggests that the RT2870rta firmware will...

Re: broken packages?

hi tosh124, i see that viking already gave you all the good advises possible, if you have an install with near 1000 pkgs to update you should either update them (what at this moment is a almost impossible task - and if you need further support in this, we are here to give it to you, but without any...

Re: broken packages?

tosh, if you are tracking testing but you have nearly 1000 upgrades waiting for you on a new install I think you must be using the old install disk. Are you aware there is a newer version out here: http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/testing (linuxmint-201108-gnome). I know that is a release can...

Re: broken packages?

Now that is a real lulu that is  A while ago I would have said it was impossible, but I have not one but two Mint 11 live dvd's from completely different sources that boot straight into Ubuntu 10.10 every single time without fail, and I would have said that was impossible too, but I know it ...

Re: broken packages?

Re: broken packages?

Vincent Vermeulen wrote:You may try:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Thanks Vincent, but the last time I did that it installed Mint 11, which crashed the machine so I am trying to avoid it.

Any other suggestions?
thanks

broken packages?

Hello, I have been installing Debian for a while now on several machines, and one common theme is that it will not update because of broken packages, does anyone know why a clean, vanilla install produces the problem? I would also appreciate an easy way of fixing the packages because the package man...

Re: last ditch attempt to fix wireless drivers b4 windows :(

Are you sure that other Modules aren't loading and conflicting with your wireless driver causing it to hang. I had this problem and had to blacklist 2 modules before wireless worked properly. Try running: lsmod and we'll have a look. To be honest I'm not sure that isn't the case, although for some ...

Re: bootable usb drive?

The easier way to install Linux OS onto USB stick is 1, unplug all drives, except the target USB stick 2, boot comp from DVD/CD, then install onto USB stick, install bootloader to USB stick also. this way grub will always get it right onto the USB stick Doh!! why didnt I think of that! The easy ans...

Re: bootable usb drive?

Are you sure unetbootin was pointed at the right drive/device? I've had this prob a couple times when using it, and each time realised it was setting my 1TB external drive also, and using it by default. Once I switched it to the right device/mount point, all worked fine. Absolutely certain. I have ...

Re: last ditch attempt to fix wireless drivers b4 windows :(

I did download and try redux64, but it didn't work (wireless & mouse). A shame really as it has many, many apps and is very responsive! I'll try that on my sons laptop which has a problem with broadcom drivers.....

Does anyone have any other suggestions???

cheers
