Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon fails to boot

Can you go into your firmware and modify the boot order to reset the ubuntu loader as choice one? Or can you manually select an efi file? If not from the live USB try to install refind. Here is how to create a refind USB: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php/43221-GRUB-2-A-Guide-for-Users/pa...

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon fails to boot

Let's start with the basics:

boot from the live USB.

what is the output of

Code: Select all

sudo lsblk
It looks like you used the encrypt option withing the installer which means

you have en ext2 /boot partition and the rest of the install is inside an LVM.

Where exaclty does the boot fail?

I have an AMD a10-8800 which works fine. I assumed the Bristol ridge and carrizo apus were virtually identical.

Just tried this in a 18.3 KDE virtual guest, and the process died a slow death in dependency hell.

That depends on the motherboard. ANythying older than Skylake or Ryzen is fine. Newer boards with alc1220 audio codec may have issues.

I agree MTP is buggy. However, KDE connect in Mint KDE is spectacular. You can directly browse the phones file system. I assume XFCE or gnome has an equivalent.

Re: Is Flatpak supposed to take up so much storage space ?

Does Flatpak install ALL dependencies by default , without any kind of checking ? That looks to me like a recipe for redundancy , and bloat .... The word "perverse" has been mentioned , and if I were to put on my old-timey UNIX hat , I'd have to agree - :) Flatpak installs a "micro environement" wh...

Re: Radeon RX580 with amdgpu (not -pro)

You are not the only person who failed to install amdgpu-pro in MInt but succeeded in Ubuntu 16.04.3 AMD tests the driver against a particular ubuntu configuration, which is not identical to Mint. Ubuntu LTS uses a HWE with upgraded Xserver. You can try to install the HWE in Mint and see if amdgpu-p...

Re: Radeon RX580 with amdgpu (not -pro)

I don't know what the level of support for rx580 (polaris 12) is in amdgpu. You might be stuck using amdgpu-pro. However, padoka only upgrages mesa. It doesn't upgrade the xserver or the full amdgpu package. Here is what I woudl try: 1. Upgrade your kernel to the 4.10 series at least 2. Disable pado...

Re: Linux Mint Won't Boot From hard drive after Install

You have by all accounts correctly installed te OS. You successfully created an entry for the Ubuntu bootloader in your firmware. You now need to reorder your boot sequence. 1. Enter the laptop firmware/BIOS 2. Make sure legacy booting is disabled (also called CSM) and you are in UEFI mode only 3. D...

Thanks mr_raider. No dice. I created the necessary 4 partitions as you instructed, and selected grub to install to /dev/sda. I was hoping this last step would fix the issue, as my previous attempts I did not select sda, and I simply clicked on continue. At this point, I tried of fighting with this,...
