Re: Timeshift PPAs, a mess?

Stick to the one in the Ubuntu repos. It's current enough.

It's backup software not graphics drivers. Don't need bleeding edge.

Re: fwupd fails every day

fwupd is useless for most hardware because the manufacturer's don't make their updates compatible with it.

Unless you have a system76 laptop or something don't waste your time with it.

It's all file operations done through the GUI. If you copied or moved a file, its there.

Re: (Linux Mint 21) Cannot see an option for WiFi [SOLVED]

I have an HP Probook with same wifi chipset (8852be). Has there been any progress with this in newer kernels like 5.18? Buidling from scratch is pain since it needs to be redone for each kernel update. If you are still looking for a solution, I've just tried the solution by sleeper12 above, which f...

Ubuntu MATE and Mint MATE have been around for years, and neither is going anywhere.
I Wonder which ia more popular ,counted by the number of downloads or number of machines in use.
Maybe Mint should make Gnome shell edition. I wouldn't mind some think like Pop OS on a Mint base.

Re: How is Linux Mint (and other Linux distros) protected from foreign influence & possible takeover ?

As far as international espionnage goes, Linux Mint isnt on anyone's radar.

There are benefits to using an OS that has less 3% market share. very small target on your back.

Cinnamon is the Mint flagship DE. Mint is derived from Ubuntu. No I am not talking about LMDE. We have to see what would be the effect on Cinnamon Mint.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

I've come up with a kluge that lets me fold in mint 21. My ignorance of linux file structure makes it less than elegent. I installed the client file from the FAH site. I then searched for every instance of config.xml on the machine and replaced any FAH config I found with the config.xml I use in Mi...

Re: No sound and dummy output device after reboot on Mint 20 64 bit [SOLVED]

Yeah if you have a renoir APU those three updates are toxic. I've run it on systems with Intel sound and realtek audio with no issues. Anyway as I said the fix is out there. A manjaro live usb does not have this issue. Right now I just uncheck those three updates any time I run the updater on my 470...

Re: HP ProBook x360 435 G7

Can't speak for the touchscreen or pen, but a lot of us have ryzen 4000 series laptops and we made it work. You may not be able to boot the installer right away without a nomodeset option. You may need to manually upgrade to the 5.8 series kernel after that. Plus a recent alsa update yesterday screw...

Re: No sound and dummy output device after reboot on Mint 20 64 bit

What happened? Welcome to ubuntu/Linux! A recent upgrade to alsa broke your hardware support. We both have AMD renoir laptops so we noticed it right away. I'm sure someone else will complain soon about some other bug on different hardware. For now don't touch those packages. The problem affects all ...

It's not the alsa-utils package.

It's these three

Try reverting the topology package first.

Re: No sound and dummy output device after reboot on Mint 20 64 bit

Yes. I had the same issue on my Acer Swift 3 using a 4700u CPU. It happened this morning and I suspect it is a recent update. My machine is NOT running Mint, but rather KDE NEon 20.04. Nevertheless it is clearly an upstream problem in Ubuntu. I managed to use timeshift to restore to a late October c...
