Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

Boo, I just wanted to toss in my great appreciation for all of your hard work on Mint 6. I'm using the RC on my laptop right now, and it's making me seriously consider switching from GNOME to KDE on my desktop when the final release rolls around. KDE4 was an untamed beast when it first came out, and...

Re: Linux Mint 6 KDE RC1 Bug Thread

Is anyone else having issues with sound on Youtube? I'm not getting any sound playing flash videos in either Konqueror or Firefox. My adobe-flashplugin version is 10.0.22.87-2intrepid1. I was having problems with flash videos not even showing up in Konqueror until I just recently uncommented some re...

Re: Linux Mint 6 KDE RC1 Bug Thread

I downloaded this yesterday to test it on my laptop. I've gotten a bit tired of dealing with gnome-power-manager and it's horrible screen brightness problems, stealing the focus of my keyboard and such. I have to say, I'm actually pleasantly surprised by KDE 4.2. They seem to have fixed some things ...

Re: The MASTER KDE CE update thread!

I just want to see the new KDE on my beloved Mint. Can I download it somewhere? Or I better stick with openSUSE if I want to have the bleeding edge KDE? I'm pretty sure you can just download the latest version of KDE from their website and put it on your Mint machine whenever you want. The final ve...

Re: GLaCiX - Artwork Brainstorming

Anyone want to try making an ISOLINUX splash screen for the boot menu? I've been scouring the web a bit to see what the rules are for splash screens (colors, size, file extension and such), but I'm still not totally sure what they are. If someone could clear it up for me, that would be great. And s...

Re: Strictly Mint - New Wallpaper

Really wonderful work, Zwopper. I love the subtle lighting in the center and the texture in the background :) Not the biggest fan of the font you used, but what you did to make it look shiny and plastic-like looks really good! I think Jernau's Deja Vu logo has me dizzy from lower-case gothic sans fo...

Re: Love Mint Black

Actually, I would give the GIMP a look. It has a "spyrogimp" effect that looks a lot like what you have there. Maybe if there was a way you could select the logo, and then stroke the selection with that effect or something... If you've ever messed around with Photoshop, it shouldn't take y...

Re: GLaCiX - Artwork Brainstorming

I didn't know Inkscape could do work like that. Do you use GIMP at all? I sure do! I actually prefer GIMP to Inkscape, just because I've spent more time in GIMP and know it better, but in this case, Inkscape was the right choice because of svg. I wanted to make sure the logo could be scaled to any ...

It would be fun if any of my fellow artists will jump in as well. Done. http://fc79.deviantart.com/fs38/i/2008/356/1/0/Glacix_Logo_Concept_by_dberg918.png Click the image to view the svg file. Made this in Inkscape, so scale to your heart's content. I wrote some notes while I was making the ...

Re: Fractal Mint

Fascinating! I was searching for words to describe this when I first saw it, and I think kanishka hit the nail on the head. Very tastefully done! If I had to give one suggestion, I would say, if possible, put some kind of shading on the outer circle of the mint leaf to make it look more 3-D. Then i...

For your consideration, Mint Vertigo: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/3094515822_b0c2c61308_o.png wide-screen and full-screen This wallpaper is semi-transparent. For background colors, I recommend using very dark blues (i.e. #030023), or washed out colors, like a creamy yellow (i.e. #FFFCAF). If...

Using LaTeX to create Linux Mint's manual

I was just taking a look at Mint's manual on one of the mirrors and noticed that OpenOffice was being used to export it to a pdf. Just curious, but has clem considered using LaTeX to compile the manual? I mean, it might be a lot of work, but if lots of people use the manual, I think it might be wort...

Re: Minty Christmas!

This looks fantastic! I'm quite envious of your abilities in Photoshop and your access to Cinema 4D. I checked it out after Jernau made the Mint balls scene with it. Looks like a sweet program, just not willing to deal with the price tag...is there any kind of open source alternative for it? Blender...

Re: Mint Vertigo [Draft]

I'd vote for no texture, but it's not bad. Maybe if it was toned down a bit. I made a quick edit to the leaf texture. See if that's a little better. I went ahead and took a look at it on my desktop without the texture, and I didn't like it. I think because the cloudy texture around the leaf is kind...

Re: Mint Nova (proof of concept)

Actually, the pool thing I was referring to was something like this: http://tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:b0BWIOS6PRbhzM:http://home.earthlink.net/~zverart7/holga/holga16goldpool.jpg But I very much like what Vlad has done in that tutorial! I will certainly take it into consideration. Thanks for the ...

Mint Nova (proof of concept)

This is actually an older idea, just never took the time to put it together. It's a rough draft at the moment (full-screen definitely needs work), but thought I'd put it up here to hopefully get some opinions. Does anyone know of a way to generate that reflection you can see at the bottom of a pool ...

Re: Sell Mint in the U.S. with legal codecs?

What will happen though is that this Light Edition will soon come with a .mint file on its desktop, or an additional question in mintAssistant and having the codecs installed will then be either one or two clicks away. I like this idea. If you did this, couldn't you just merge the Main and Light ed...
