My home folder is now my home/desktop folder after copying my home folder from another installation

I've installed Mint 19.1 and I've copied my home folder from my previous LMDE2 installation, both Cinnamon editions. Yes, I know LDME and the main edition have different bases but I thought just the personal home folder wouldn't hurt copying over. I got most my personal definitions imported into Min...

Re: Recording Video On Linux Using DSLR

Hi! Just thinking about this eventual solution... If your camera doesn't directly allow timelapse, why don't you buy a grip for your camera that does it? I got one for my Canon EOS 1000D. It has a timelapse configurable options, apart from some of the most important buttons for photographing, includ...

Re: Need a cheap USB soundcard. Any recommendations?

My guess is that this device is usb standards compliant---and will be Linux compatible. It works! The sound is very chewed up and processed, and I have to increase the bass in order to listen to things a bit more properly equalized, but for €1 the thing sure works. I go to the sound setti...

Re: How to prepare for keeping LMDE2 after EOL?

I've tried LMDE3 and it really is still a beta, it's not polished enough. Thanks for letting me know At the moment, I'm keeping myself in LMDE2. My system is so heavily modified (and I didn't write down all the changes I've made) that it cannot upgrade, it brakes. Besides this, just now I've been a...

Re: Firefox ESR 52.9 last one on Jessie (LMDE 2)?

At the moment, I am running 60.4.0esr (64-bit). You must have locked yourself on that version of FIrefox, it's likely that you're holding that package. Have you tried running sudo apt held If Firefox-esr is listed on the output, you've locked yourself. You can unlock yourself with sudo apt unhold fi...

Re: Nemo runs CPU usage at about 80% when opening the root of a partition and does not show contents

Funny... If I format this partition with NTFS or EXT3, it all works fine. Nemo is not liking this partition having EXT4! Even funnier and weird: If I delete this partition on Gparted and recreate an unformatted one, the system will pick up the previous EXT4 partition and all the data it had there be...

Nemo runs CPU usage at about 80% when opening the root of a partition and does not show contents

I'm having trouble accessing the partition I've destined for documents on a SSD drive. Nemo runs CPU usage at about 80% and it does not show the contents of the root of that partition. Sometimes, if I open some shortcut for a folder inside that partition, Nemo opens it no problem (others, it chews u...

For €1, I'll risk it. I'm buying it.

@Smurphos, thank you so much for your reply. Metabox does the trick, you've saved my LMDE3 bacon! So, quoting your solution from your mentioned post: wget https://github.com/smurphos/Window_Borders_Mint_19/releases/download/v.0.6/metacity_for_mint19_cinn.zip unzip metacity_for_mint19_cinn....

Re: Need a cheap USB soundcard. Any recommendations?

Thanks, @MrEen. So I guess it's more a question of the chip that card is built upon. I've never seen any mention of what's the chip on any of these selling pages. I wonder if the €1 card I've given the link will work. No idea of what chip is it using, nor how to build a script go get it running. But...

[SOLVED] Need a cheap USB soundcard. Any recommendations?

I don't have a headphone jack on my new laptop. Yes, they can already be shipped without these! I have a bluetooth speaker that does the job, but I also have some headphones that I'd like to plug in for the stereo and privacy. For this, I've seen some cheap USB soundcards on eBay like this one...

Re: Touchpad not working/not visible in xinput

Install HardInfo: sudo apt install hardinfo Then you can run it by pressing Alt+F2 and type hardinfo (and then press Enter) On the left pane, click on Input Devices. Check on the right pane if there is some entry that may look like a touchpad and post your findings here. By the way, try this: https:...

Re: Troubleshoot trackpad

Just to make sure if this is a software or hardware problem...

Are you sure the trackpad failure is due to software?

Are you sure the hardware is working ok?

Have you tried any other OS on that machine (Windows, or some Linux Mint boot ISO) for testing, and it all works perfectly?

@sleeper12, thanks for your reply! It doesn't work, but your help was enough for me to keep on pushing the string and find the end of it. I've done it! Ok, so synclient doesn't work, with the output: synclient Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded? So I don't think this is a...

[SOLVED] How can I get the Clearlooks theme to work on LMDE3?

I just can't work with the default theme shipped with Mint nowadays. I need an immediate contrast letting me know instantly which one is the active window and the clearlooks theme does it perfectly. The default theme by far does not give contrast so I can't distinguish between the active and the bac...

[SOLVED] How can I tell LMDE2 to turn off the touchpad?

I just can't get the touchpad do turn off. This is a bad one and it does more harm than good. I've disabled everything in the touchpad controls on the Control Center, but all that is ignored and the touchpad is happilly getting itself on the way. I've seen this post regarding the same prob...

Re: grub 2

Yes, you're right. You shouldn't edit the grub.cfg file. You can, but the next time a new kernel is installed or you or something runs update-grub, those settings will be overwritten and you'll have to do it all again. The correct way to do things is to edit the /etc/default/grub file. In there, you...

How to prepare for keeping LMDE2 after EOL?

Hi guys! I still want to keep LMDE2 after it's official EOL, at least until I have LDME3 configured to the point I find it suitable for production. Or keep LMDE2 if I can't get my old look&feel on LMDE3 /EndOfRantAboutNewGUIdesignTrends  So for what I've seen around and willing to compile it a...

Re: Will Debian provide security updates after LMDE2's end of support after January 2019?

Good point, Zorzi.

This means at some point the Mint and Debian's repos won't be providing Firefox regular updates. Just the ESR versions then? Can someone please clarify? Thanks.

Re: Will Debian provide security updates after LMDE2's end of support after January 2019?

Thanks, xenopeek,

I already have

deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main

in my sources. I assume this is good enough to keep this old machine at least for a couple more years. This ends up not being that bad at all for those of us running LMDE2.
