Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

That's it. Just edit the file /etc/pam.d/mdm and comment two lines: auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start That solves the issue and I can login from mdm to my desktop again. This is an amazing hack, just made my day!! Apparently lightdm (which I've been...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

Strange. Only logging in from graphical prompt does the problem. When i log in from text prompt on TTY1 and run startx it runs Cinnamon with no troubles. I think I can confirm this. Logging in from mdm gets stuck. Not exactly sure which packaged caused this as I did a really big dist-upgrade today. ...

Ok, let's see if our firefox and flash versions are the same then. Re: Firefox stuttering

this post is on the right trail: once the "stuttering" starts -- everything is affected -- and it doesn't go away until I do a system restart. and does it start while using firefox? just want to make sure, I notice a big impact when using firefox (and underneath flashplayer) whereas with chromium I...

Re: Firefox stuttering

all looks fine so I suspect firefox and flashplayer (bit old on firefox) use chromium for a moment and see if it is more stable then firefox. Hi there, If I may add to this, I don't think the problem is restricted to just firefox, or any desktop manager in particular. Also see http://forums.linuxmi...

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

@iLobster, try posting the output of

Code: Select all

cinnamon --replace
when running from gnome-fallback, that might help :) On a side note, if you're running compiz, turn it off from the startup applications preferences.

Re: BCM wireless problem, nm-applet 'device not ready

Don't know any way I could get a debugging output on this, sigh. I tried purging network-manager again and noticed these few lines: Purging configuration files for network-manager ... dpkg: warning: while removing network-manager, directory '/var/lib/NetworkManager' not empty so not removed. dpkg: w...

Re: Please, how to compile kernel 3.2 for my LMDE?

Compile hmm? Not sure how to do that but it doesn't sound easy. As for a .deb file, maybe it's not such an easy matter either  Maybe you should try using liquorix kernels, more frequently updated and they have kernel 3.2, instructions here: http://r3dux.org/2011/09/how-to-install-the-liquorix-k...

Re: Can I Get Rid of Extra Desktop Environments?

I would say yes, you can remove Mate. As for gnome, I don't think so, since cinnamon is only the 'shell' part, it still uses gnome3 in a sense so better keep it around :) If I were you, I'd keep mate installed in case cinnamon or gnome breaks, coz things are still abit early and rough so it's kinda ...

Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

HOWTO: This is by no way a guaranteed and simple way to build Cinnamon (this is under 32-bit), but it should tidy things up for those wanting to try :) Compiling on Debian Testing should work just fine. Also a note of advice: BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING 1)You'll have to enable debian sources list by ed...

@zerozero, I appreciate your help, but I have the exact packages installed too, with the same version numbers :/ Will try figuring that out somehow. Re: building Cinnamon (sid)

@stz*j, are you trying on testing or sid, 32 or 64? LMDE Testing, 32-bit (With minimal mixing of gnome-shell 3.2 from sid, that shouldn't affect things too much, I think). I don't see why 'apt build' detects that I have atk 2.0.1 installed but running ./configure on a freshly baked muffin folder pa...

Re: Try to install

Hi, there's no lmde kde version yet, but you can get KDE installed after you install lmde onto your hard drive. Not very sure about the specifics but quite simply, installing the package kde-full should get you to it. Fair warning, the download seems to be 500++MB including all the dependencies. OR,...

Re: BCM wireless problem with gnome nm-applet 'device not re

Is this same behavior happening even if you select, unselect and re-select the "enable wireless" setting of Gnome NM? That's a very strange problem because I have a few machines with a BCM4312 and have never seen that happen in all the distros I have tried. I have had to resort to wicd for an Ather...

[Solved] BCM wireless problem, nm-applet 'device not ready'

Hi, I've got a pretty strange wireless problem I can't seem to resolve. My gnome nm-applet shows "device not ready" under Wireless Networks (note: no 'firmware missing' thing) so I can't connect to any wireless networks using that. BUT, I can use wicd or ceni to connect without a problem. My...

No, it's not your imagination (too bad :P). I can confirm that Firefox 9 IS part of the updates today. Not that big a matter for me, but glad that it trickled through :)
