Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I voted for Cinnamon, KDE, MATE, and Xfce. For the moment I use Mint 11 with Gnome 2.32.1 and this is the best desktop experience I have had so far. I voted for other DE too, just because I don't know if anything can replace Gnome 2.32.1 and give me the same level of satisfaction. So, I will stick t...

Re: Can someone explain to me why Cinnamon has been developp

Cinnamon is in heavy development, so you don't see a complete DE. It has great potential. And above all it allows Mint developers to develop Mint the way they want it and be independent from Shell or Unity developers. This also means they can go Minty way in terms of accommodating Mint users' prefer...

Re: If you had ONE request for the Cinnamon devs what would

What I wish was possible is to have (eventually) ability to have two panels one right above the other, as it is possible in Gnome 2. I prefer to use two panels at once, one for icons and second for switching between open applications (open windows list). I find it very convenient. Here is how it loo...

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

implemented in 1.1.1 (uploaded in tridex repository) :) Thank you. I'm very grateful for your quick response. I tried to install caja_1.1.1-1_i386.deb (1.7 MB) from here http://mate.karapetsas.com/index.php?page=package&package=caja but there are some dependency problems. GDebi shows: "Breaks exist...

- Will be possible to have more than one panel, like, one at the top and one at the bottom with different functions/launchers? --> Yes, though it's a lot of work to get this done and it's not a priority. But yes, eventually. - Movable panel elements, yes or no? --> Same answer. Hi, That's great new...

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

can you ask this in our issue tracker? Done. https://github.com/perberos/Mate-Desktop-Environment/issues/74 I read this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/67310/will-nautilus-elementary-be-available-for-11-10 It seems that Nautilus Elementary will not be available any longer for Gnome 3.x I didn't che...

Do you mean Mint launchpad?

I also posted PM to perberos, so he should eventually get notified about this idea.

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

perberos,
Could you please implement Ctrl+Z feature in Caja (undo the latest action). It is in Nautilus Elementary 2.32.2. It's very useful feature and I miss it very much in Mate.

Re: Basket Notes problem pasting images and text

Hi, How difficult do you think this idea would be to implement it in BasKet and do you think it's a good idea? Do you want to do it yourself? you can propose this feature at http://forum.kde.org/brainstorm.php#cat83 or here as a request https://bugs.kde.org/ Try Cherrytree. http://www.giuspen.com/c...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Go for LMDE KDE. Some arguments: 1) Linux Mint 10 KDE has a year of support yet. 2) There is no LMDE KDE yet. Simple argument but important. 3) I installed kubuntu-desktop on top of Katya and it works nice, so anybody can do the same on her/his own. 4) For Ubuntu based Mint consider Xfce - maybe not...

Re: Partimage ~ Partition Imaging Questions from a noob

Yes. It's a good idea to re-partition your disk. First of all you should separate root partition /, from /home. It is useful when you have to reinstall your system. Then you can only format root. It keeps your program settings untouched. My root is 13GB from which only 5,1 GB is used. /home should b...

Re: Installing updates without root password

I raised this issue some time ego: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=56290 I also think mintupdate shouldn't keep superuser privileges all the time. After update I just do right mouse button click on the icon and choose close. It shuts down the program completely. After next reboot it...

Re: how to get rid of the password drive encryption

Have you made an encrypted partition during installation or later on? I guess it is not disc encryption but rather this disc is not auto-mounted. If you want to mount it automatically every time than you need to add an entry about this disc to your fstab. Read this: Auto Mount Partitions on Boot (al...

Re: why every 6 months?

Maybe Tumbleweed model would be a good idea. Instead of something that "is intended to be the next stable release" would be better to use stable, tested and brand new software (only if it is tested and stable).

Mint 11 with Xfce 4.8

I wish Mint 11 based on Ubuntu has additional Xfce 4.8 release. Xfce 4.8 is almost as functional as Gnome 2. I know about LMDE with Xfce but as I'm am not very experienced user I'd like to avoid problems with rolling release. Besides I'd like to suggest installing Nautilus Elementary, at least as an...

Mint backup software selection list without libraries

I think it would be better if Mint backup software selection list was without libraries. It should include only applications names (executables). Now this list looks like a clutter. It is a boring and sometimes confusing task to select from a long list. Appropriate libraries and other dependencies a...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

@mmesantos1 Very elegant. Could you describe what theme it is, what icons, and other details? And what LSF stands for? It would be great to have the same theme as GDM. It would be great if there was a rule for this topic, as a sticky note, to give some details for those who want to get their desktop...
