Re: my opinion
I tried the latest download for LMDE. I prefer KDE but whatever. I cannot get the sound to work. Regardless of what setting I use. This is the only distro that it doesn't work with my hardware. Yes, they make it look so purrrrrrrrrrrrrrty..... but, nothing works. Also, VLC won't start but they have ...

Re: Why do you use Cinnamon?
Print Scrn and full screen youtube works for me. But, sound doesn't. I wouldn't worry too much. Linux Mint is overrated anyway and the forum admins are too scared to have constructive criticism.
Apology!
I apologize for my outbursts - i.e. those posts. I don't know if criticism is allowed but I guess it broke forum rules. I still dont' like the Software Manager that is included with the KDE spin but I know that's no excuse. I did get something to work and I used Synaptic as the software manager. It ...

Re: Suggestions for Cinammon based on KDE
Well, I couldn't get the openSUSE torrent download to work (bad sign), and Kubuntu's Muon Software Center seems a bit off (can't find Skype, for example, probably related to http://askubuntu.com/questions/141814/lord-of-ultima-and-bit-trip-runner-not-available-in-muon-software-centre), so I think I...

KDE on Mint?
Linux Mint's good example at HOW NOT TO DO KDE. Just try the KDE spin for such an example. BARF!

Mint is crap
Everytime I decide to again try this POS distro, it's always the same. It's the most overrated piece of turd in the Linux world.
Every live version doesn't work. The other distros, at least you can install software and get things to run. Mint, on the other hand, is a major failure.

Skype on Mint
The Software Manager 'Mint Install 7.3.9) is a POS. So, don't count on installing skype from the Sh8tware Manager. Why do they even have it?
I got straight grey fragments, also. The two balls will just spin forever. Mint is overrated junk.

Re: Realtek Wireless connection hiccups
You shouldn't have to install from the Realtek website and compile? Since, you have wifi working to some extent, you must have installed the realtek firmware? Non-free sources are in the repo and you did an apt-get update etc.? http://wiki.debian.org/rtl819x Is it possible there could be some interf...

Re: Screensaver doesn't work properly
Nobody? I can ask politely... Has anyone else come across this? Surely, someone watches a movie or video in LMDE and then what happens when watching? If a show or movie is over 1 hr, the screensaver probably comes on before then. I looked at the settings and even if you unclick the setting, it still...

Re: my opinion
Personally my wifi was working fine right after the installation... So posting in this topic more than one month after the last post is not very clever and saying that the wifi is not working is not true. Maybe it is for some users but not for the majority of us. Remember : LMDE is not for newbies....

Re: HDMI-Sound gone after LMDE upgrade (solved)
And what is the corresponding GRUB command if you have an Intel chip? /j This might be of some help despite it being for ArchLinux. I think the concept of what you have to do is the same. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132641 Run these commands: aplay -l Get the device info. E.g. say, i...

Re: We need a serious evlauation of the LMDE "rolling releas
They don't want a serious evaluation. The LMDE / Mint team only want praise and not constructive evaluation.

Re: my opinion
How can you say LMDE 'just works?' There are many features in it that DO NOT work. For your wifi, you need to google the chipset and firmware that you need and go from there. You should be able to get that working in any distro. It's just the procedure that you need to know, which one to use and the...

Screensaver doesn't work properly
You can't disable the screensaver from the menu/settings. Even if you unclick the settings there, it doesn't work. If you are watching a video in VLC, for e.g., the screensaver will still operate and the screen will still turn black. This has been posted previously yet not one person from the LMDE c...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5
I'd be satisfied with a LMDE that just works regardless of which DE they focus on. I meant the concentration is on the regular Mint or that with the Ubuntu base. Some have said I have 'troll' posts because I'm blunt with my criticism but it is intended to be constructive. But, I noticed a few user i...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5
It's still primarily an Ubuntu-based distro.
'Thought I'd try a KDE spin of LMDE and each time, the download just dies.
Not sure what thread it was but there was a post with the downloads and same thing happened before. Time to just stay with regular Debian. LMDE is a failure.

Re: Cannot boot Linux Mint KDE
Do you have Windows on this drive as well? Does it boot up Windows instead of something else? Most of the time, the mistake is in the install process in which the user will choose installing Grub to a particular partition but maybe not the appropriate one. You have choices as far as I know of either...

Re: Password required in Debian Mint Live?
Yes, it's required but the devs and admins don't even test their own distro. This is the situation in Mint 13 Maya KDE as well. You can type, 'mint' or 'root' and nothing will work. Hitting the enter key doesn't work either. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=113039&p=633369&am...
