Don't know how The Bat! encrypts, but with Thunderbird you can use Enigmail for encryption

If you don't run a server the minimal iso is the best. Install Kubuntu desktop and after installation install the Mint repos for typical Mint programs

KDE is neither my piece of cake ;) But it's also sorry that LMDE 3 has no MATE version, although I understand Mint's / Clem's decision
