Re: default partitioning scheme

dealing with partiontions have always been non-triviale for about 90% of all computer users, i say this from over 10 years of professional end-user it support experience. especially since windows (even after 20 years of development) has not even started to implement this. having /home defaulted to a...

Re: Mint respin for business?

just for future reference mostly, i think the 'lack' of more dicussion on this matter has shown that 'not enought' people comming here are interested in a 'linux mint for enterprise' and honnestly in cant blame them as cinamon is far to new (and fast paced development) to be considered enterprise re...

Re: Project Aries (Voice Command Idea)

by the looks of thair website its quite outdated, i wonder if its even being developed anymore, having speech recognition in a desktop seem to be a nice-to-have feature but the everlasting problem to me stil is the language barier, i saw people stepping right into the google api, as they did with th...

Re: MintUpdate without password

i second that and would go even further. What if i want to maintain systems that have not local system-administrator so the 'computer owner due to lack of proper understanding' isn't even part of the sudo'ers list. So now i, who usually fix the errors and maintain the system, want to be able to let ...

Re: Keep OpenOffice.org Default Application Names

bad idea because Open Office.org is no more, its dead and it should be, thanks to the b1@#*!$es over oracle OpenOffice.org is now called LibreOffice but at least it will finally include many fixed that could not be made availible because of code not usable for oracle's dual-license model. the bad si...

xfce-lite (help needed)

can anyone help me figure out how to start assembling my own xfce desktop, im thinking of mint with + lxdm (instead of gdm), + xfwm (instead of compiz) + wicd (instead of network-manager) i also would want to know other features apps or settings that would make xfce light but still as powerfull as g...

more like mint light...

As a lot of you all have tried allready and some have done pretty well i still seam to miss a lot of mintness in many of the work done. in my honest opinion its because of the lack of 'co-operation' we've got gnome, xfcgnome (its not xfce because it uses to much gnome stuff, like gdm and network-man...

Re: How-to "help" someone use a computer.

How to help someone use a computer. http://polaris.gseis.ucla.edu/pagre/how-to-help.html Computer people are fine human beings, but they do a lot of harm in the ways they "help" other people with their computer problems. Now that we're trying to get everyone on-line, I thought it might be helpful t...

Re: Mint respin for business?

thats only try if for example you would sell the pro-version for more $$ than the home version, listen to yourself, in your words we should also NOT distribute a gnone kde ore xfce version as its all just away to make more monney. ;) no his idea sounds genuine, - meaning - you can perfecly 'modify' ...

Re: Mint respin for business?

to be honnest i think that the arguments about Rhell ar really false, ive been working with Rhell in corp use for a while and in many ways i find it not beter than any other linux distro ... also Cononical has already shown that ubuntu is to be taken sirriously, with the Ubuntu addon to the LPI-cour...

[xfce howto] Add network smb support to xfce

Pre note to forum mods. In my honnest opinion this forum has a howto section that is TO general to be usefull (in some cases at least), For example the next howto described in this post is only usefull for xfce-users since gnome and kde had already sutch features for a long time now. I therefor wou...

Re: replace thunar as standard file manager

note to all: A thunar isn't missing the adresbar, its just not 'selected' by default, try the 'view' menu (i think its called view in english??) there is an option to switch to an adresbare like window rather than the 'in mint default' windows 3.11 like view. also there is an aditionall reason to us...

Re: Here's A Thought: Linux Mint Free Media Project

sorry mate, but this is where you can see that Opensource is NOT free, i allready resent the idea that allmost ALL linux distro's use http / ftp for dowloading of files (iso's and updates) rather than using some sort of Torrent or gnutella (or whatever). aa you shouldn't want to help 'free loaders' ...

Re: Stop 6 Month Release Cycles - Break Away from Ubuntu

probably a bit late on a repley to this issue - but a yearly release would'nt be strange imho, i wouldn't even mind if there would only be release based on the ubuntu LTS's even though i think ubuntu seems to take its own LTS stratigy verry unsirriously ... sadly to say... 10.4 has more buggs than 9...
