Re: Default Compiz Config for all future versions of Mint MATE
Interestingly enough, my Compiz configuration (in Mint 19.3) is almost identical to what rhY recommended, although I never touched it (a.k.a. default). The differences are these: Transparent Cube: Opacity During Rotation: 20.0000 (default: 100) Rotate Cube: Checked: Zoom: 2.0000 (default: 0) Additio...

Major bug in Intel Skylake/Kaby Lake CPUs
Here's a quote from the Debian mailing list : This warning advisory is relevant for users of systems with the Intel processors code-named "Skylake" and "Kaby Lake". These are: the 6th and 7th generation Intel Core processors (desktop, embedded, mobile and HEDT), their related ser...

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” MATE released!
Awesome release, thank you! :) The upgrade from 17.2 (MATE) went smoothly, then I also installed kernel 4.2.0-19 and everything's peachy. Well, almost. While using Chrome 47 with Twitch (Flash Player) I tried and failed to switch the sound output from my regular sound card outputs to HDMI (connected...

Re: LTSP and Linux Mint
It would be really nice if the LTS and Debian Mint editions would have LTSP support.

Re: Update manager enhancement
It's a bit strange to compare the Android update manager (Google Play) with mintUpdate considering how different are their environments. mintUpdate can be turned off by simply closing the program with a right-click on its icon in the notification area, and later you can turn it back on from the menu...

Re: Update manager enhancement
Maybe a better explanation is required. 1. Perform an update with mintUpdate 2. Close mintUpdate 3. Start mintUpdate Step #3 will result in a new apt-get update , which is unnecessary if an update was already performed sooner than the time set in the auto-refresh settings. Another important enhancem...

Re: Add Kingsoft Office to Linux Mint repositories
I really like what the Kingsoft Office developers did so far in WPS Office. It's a very interesting office suite for people accustomed to Microsoft Office, but it still needs a lot of development to become a strong contender in its battlefield. I had to explain the developers why allowing comma and ...

Re: Question: Really fast & lightweight distribution?
That's a great comparison and it also has a part 2 . :) Thanks for the link! For my modest netbook (Dell mini10) I will soon try Crunchbang Linux or a custom Debian setup. I already played with Debian in a virtual machine with a 2GB HDD just to see how much can I squeeze in that space. Of course the...

That's quite interesting and at least v2.1.1 looks like is can handle all the disk images and mentioned and more. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try it sometime soon.

Re: Perfect Mint
1. What I wrote was clear enough but it's probably too much info for someone who didn't encounter the issue. Here's another version of the issue: on shutdown, Linux synchronizes the hardware clock to the software clock of your Linux session. This is obviously a problem when your hardware clock is se...

Topic: Perfect Mint Forum: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=29 Tough topic, considering people have different needs, but I think the stuff I bring up would serve quite a large part of the users if they were implemented. Re: Xorg Tainted with fglrx on fresh LMDE UP6 686-pae
I gave up and I installed the latest AMD driver from their website. It's OK now. The main problem is LMDE's recommendation, which is not good. But functionality-wise my problem is solved.

Re: Xorg Tainted with fglrx on fresh LMDE UP6 686-pae
Sure, AMD and Xorg are not always in sync but LMDE doesn't come with bleeding edge Xorg and seeing ATI display driver (recommended) should never ruin your setup. My PC is noisy with the current driver and of course it draws more power. I was hoping it would just work, or the Device Driver Manager is...

[SOLVED] Xorg Tainted with fglrx on fresh LMDE UP6 686-pae
TL;DR AMD HD5770 graphics card, the LMDE UP6 recommended driver crashes the system, while manually installing the AMD driver from their site works . CPU: Intel Core i3 530 (Arrandale) Mainboard: Intel DH55TC Graphics card: Gigabyte RADEON HD5770 (Juniper) uname -a Linux petro-pcl 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1...

Vote On A Distribution For Linux Benchmarking
Poll: Which Linux Distribution Should Be Benchmarked Most On Phoronix? Linux Mint is in the poll. Considering Mint is a great choice for many users and use cases, benchmarking on such a platform would make much sense for a lot of people. So I voted for Linux Mint. Of course, it would also help the ...

Re: Long uptime = dead Google web services
It's not by far a cookie related issue. When Google stops working I can't even ping any of their servers (and ping works fine when Google works so it's not a firewall/ICMP thing). It's like they vanish in thin air. And that causes enormously long timeouts while accessing sites with Google ads, like ...

Long uptime = dead Google web services
I already described the issue in the blog but I'll copy/paste the relevant part here. Summary: Google web services stop working in Linux Mint on PCs with long uptimes. Versions used (that I remember of): Helena, Isadora, Julia, Katya, LMDE. There is one issue I keep having with Linux Mint for more t...

Re: Mint 11 LXDE
4GB should be enough for a standard Linux Mint LXDE install. I manually installed Debian mini + LXDE in a 2GB virtual machine and I also have some free space left. I can't think of anything that large in Linux Mint LXDE that it would take up the rest of 2GB so go ahead and give it a try. It should w...
