Re: Cannot Boot to Desktop or Install LMDE

MD5Sum ok. I removed "quiet splash" and reached desktop. However, mouse cursor is a square and sometimes disappears...related to my video card and Nvidia 96 requirement, I am sure. I cannot find Nvidia 96 in synaptic or software center, so am updating and will see what happens. The mouse cursor pro...

Re: Debian Testing

So do the majority of Debian users tend to keep their repositories set to Testing in order to maintain a rolling release, or are the preferences really all over the place? I guess what I'm asking is do the Deb veterans usually prefer to stay tied to testing rather than stable. personally i prefer s...

Re: Upgrade Debian lenny to LMDE

I have just done a minimal install of debian lenny. i.e no gui etc. I would like to now upgrade it to LMDE if possible. It's a shame there isn't a LMDE minimal disk otherwise I would have started that. Could someone please post the /etc/apt/sources.list from LMDE please ;) o.O shoulda started with ...

Re: LMDE and Insecure Packages "Pulled" from Testing

At the moment Mint is holding back packages from testing. These are an update for the kernel, the kernel-headers, xorg and some other packages. I can install them, but decided to wailt and see how Mint is going to handle this. Just like you i am curious how Mint will handle the new testing. When a ...

Re: How to install nvidia driver on LMDE?

Hello everyone. I've just installed LMDE and might say very impressive. This is my first debian distro after using Ubuntu for a long while. But my problem is that I don't know how to install the nvidia driver. It's easier with ubuntu but really want to get the hang of debian for awhile. http://ging...

Re: Slow Repos

Thats a great Idea ! Lets hope that they think about adding it ! I am encouraged by the excited people about this release. I like ubuntu also, they made Linux easy to use, and Linux MInt made it even easier. I do like the idea of rolling release, will I go back to Ubuntu ? I might just depends. Get...

Re: Slow Repos

Mine was alittle slow , I just went and made a cup of coffee and relaxed, just think they are getting hammered with the LMDE users ! :) thats another reason to pick a repo closer to your location ... if lmde gets too many users we dont want the debian repos becomeing incrediably slow tbh im surpris...

Re: Possible rootkit? (Solved(ish))

Reinstalled bash (which caused some libraries to reinstall) Problem seems solved for now. I've got a copy of the original binaries and libraries in a 000 chmod'd dir, which I'll be investigating at some stage.. Tried to broach the subject on IRC but was met with a wall of ignorance. Re: How do I keep the screen on... Forever

well since its a computer you obviously dont realy care about preformance on you could probly make a simple shell script to open something that will stop it turning the screen off then have it kill the program and go back to sleep for another hour and start again :-) (or however long you set it to) ...

To download software in the software manager I need a password to authenticate. I type my log on password and it doesn't work! I don't have any other passwords. What am I doing wrong? If you want to resize a windows dragging a border you need a very steady hand because the space where the pointer transform in an arrow like this ->I is excessively narrow, or take the long way by right click on window >menu >resize, but the mostly times pointer doesn´t appear where you wanted it c...

Re: What's Google?...search before you post???

I do use Google from time to time to search up an answer for a question I've never encountered before, but I never explicitly say in my post that I used Google to find out the answer. I'm definitely not psychic, especially when it comes to non-working hardware! :P i do the same every so often half ...

Re: USB thumb drive won't show up

My USB drive will only work if I keep it plugged while I boot into Mint 9, but will not work if I plug it in after it boots. I checked out the drive on a different system and it works fine so I know it's not the drive it self so I ruled that out, I also checked out my USB slots to see if they went ...
