Canon Lide 110 scanner driver bug...

Hi. Just wondering if, 1) people still use scanners any more, and 2) has anyone that does come across a bug with their Canon scanner where Linux detects & installs the correct driver for it, but when it comes to scanning a document, it attempts to step the scanner-head much faster than it's desi...

Re: MInt 19.3 Installation disaster (32-bit)

Hello. Well, I got it to install & boot eventually, though via a convoluted route. As recommended, I removed everything except the 500gig drive, so had to install Grub onto that - b4 that, I was installing Grub onto /dev/sda1 which was the other harddrive. I then put back in the other harddrive,...

Re: MInt 19.3 Installation disaster (32-bit)

Thanks for the response. None of "the following" you list are options available on my antiquated 2006 Dell laptop. Starting live-boot and running that line from the terminal, I get; mint@mint:~$ inxi -Fzx System: Host: mint Kernel: 5.0.0-32-generic i686 bits: 32 compiler: gcc v: 7.4.0 Desk...

MInt 19.3 Installation disaster (32-bit)

Well, I'm still trying to upgrade my system from Mint 17.3 without success. With all new linux (compiled b4 2016'ish) kernels not liking my laptop's SSD/caddie combination, I bit the bullet and bought a new 500GB harddrive. Installing Mint 19.3 from USB works perfectly. Initially I tried installing ...

Re: Mint 19 Upgrade - Vino gone?

I'm trying to get vino working on Mint 19.1 and have successfully done as smurphos instructed, namely, install from repository, vino, dconf-editor, generate hash-password & enter using dconf-editor. When I try remotely accessing my Mint 19.1 pc via Remmina, it is detected & seems to connect,...

Re: [SOLVED]Mint 19 Network SAMBA shares not shownin File Manager

A big Thank You to crustycurmudgeon for pointing to a workaround for this bug - which was bugging the hell out of me! I'm referring to the inclusion of the 'client max protocol = NT1' line in smb.conf, which fixed networking for me as well.

Re: Caja audio-preview (still) broken - Rebuilding Caja prob...

From personal experience I can say with certainty that Caja is the worst file manager I've ever used - had nothing but trouble with it. The worst of it is the file transfer rates that drop off so significantly it forced me to abandon the transfers on multiple occasions. Now the complaining is out o...

Re: Caja audio-preview (still) broken - Rebuilding Caja prob...

.... So, the problem is not with Caja, it has to do with the way the Mint packages are being built! .... It has to do with Linux and the fact that there's little backwards or forwards compatibility in general. This is also why you're having trouble with dependencies in the newer release. Mint is ha...

Caja audio-preview (still) broken - Rebuilding Caja prob...

I've just installed Mint 18.3 on one of my pc's and am disappointed, though not surprised, to find that the Mint devs. still haven't fixed Caja audio-previews - it's been freezing Caja since at least Mint 17.1, and all versions since! What I am surprised about is that most users seem to find this ac...

Hey, someone else suffering from the 32-bit Linux blues! Or at least was, probably has moved on, as it was posted over a year ago. Not me though, I'm a masochist by nature and will continue to use Mint 17.3 till the fat lady sings - which is 2019 if memory serves! Anyway, my Mint 17.3 installation g...

Blueman Paired device-list location...

Hi. When you Pair a device with Blueman,it is listed on its 'Bluetooth Devices' window. If you were now to uninstall Blueman completely from the system, then reinstall it, you would find that Blueman's Bluetooth Devices still lists all devices that were previously Paired - so they are not deleted wh...

Re: 'Battery may be broken' error displayed continuously...

Thanks guys. Using 'dconf-editor', I had used "battery" as the search-term with 'Find' and was not 'finding' the 'notify-low-capacity' option with it - mainly because when I clicked Find -> Next, it was not scrolling & displaying bettery-related items, so I presumed it had found all th...

Mint 18.1: weird sound-output bug...

With my Dell laptop, the sound through the onboard speakers is perfect. The problem occurs when I try using the output from the speaker sockets, which I use with wireless headphones. The Dell has 2 stereo speaker socket-outputs, not sure how the differ though, probably different output impedences. P...

[Solved] 'Battery may be broken' error displayed continuously...

A couple of Mint 18.1 bugs are becoming evident since installation, 1 week ago. This one, with the Mate desktop running, I am treated to a reminder, often dozens of times every hour, that the battery of my laptop has a low capacity, often with a string of these reminders extending to the bottom of t...

Re: Mint 18 installation on SSD

After some more investigation, it would appear that this is a kernel regression, rather than anything Mint-related. 'lspci' shows that, at least in my case, SATA-mode is already set to IDE. I've tried 2 other Mint 18.1 kernel versions - 8.4.0-57 and 8.8.x.x (at it seemed 'newer') and both produce th...

Re: Mint 18 installation on SSD

Hello, this seems to be a known issue with Mint 18 - https://delightlylinux.wordpress.com/2016/07/12/linux-mint-18-installation-tips/ - read the bit about failing to detect SSD's. I have the same(ish) problem! First, the SSD is detected by the BIOS. I'm trying to install Mint 18.1 over Mint 17.3 (no...

Re: Bluetooth problems...

Turns out that the BT-disconnecting problem was down to the bluetooth hardware. After disconnecting the internal BT-hardware in my laptop, and swapping out my Intel 5100 wireless-card for a Intel 7260 card, which includes bluetooth 4.0 circuitry. Result, perfect uninterrupted BT audio-streaming!

Tried it, rebooted, but it didn't seem to make a difference - still disconnects after 10-15min. :(
