Submitting wallpaper?
Hey guys, LM rules! I'm continually amazed at how good it is... Thanks for all your hard work. My wife and I have been taking some pretty good photos up on Canada's west coast, and I wondered if any of our shots might make nice wallpaper to bundle with LM. How can we submit them, and what dimensions...

Re: Linux Mint 21.2 “Victoria” Cinnamon released!
Many thanks to the LM teams for all their work on this swell release, and on LM in general. Having just upgraded to 21.2 (Cinnamon), it occurred to me that Linux(and other UNIX-based and -type OSs) used to be known for their ability to be upgraded "in place" for minimal downtime. So it's c...

Re: Homepage typo
LOL—as it happens, I was doing updates in the background, and just spotted another "comma splice" in Update Manager: Reboot required. You have installed updates that require a reboot to take effect, please reboot your system as soon as possible. Suggestion: Reboot required. You have instal...

Homepage typo
Hey guys: Just thought I'd mention that, on the main LM webpage (linuxmint.com), when you point to Project, a run-on sentence appears in the pop-up menu: > Every little bit helps, don't hesitate to get involved. (Technically, it's a "comma splice"—two complete sentences joined by a comma.)...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
Well, I just spent a frustrating couple of hours trying to make a disk image (backup) of my SSD before I try to fix the partitioning. Download the foxclone iso here, burn it to a stick with mint's usb imagewriter and boot from it. https://foxclone.org/ Also download the user guide. You will find it...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
By the way, re-reading the first post I notice something worth knowing for future reference. What you wanted to do was make sure Mint was in charge of Grub before removing the other OS. And, if not, reinstall it while you could still boot Mint from the other OS's Grub menu (the command for that is ...

Re: Fixing Suspend crash; enabling Hibernation?
Hey guys: Okay, I got it to work. I can't say I understand why such an involved process (pre-activation testing, config-file editing, restarting, reconfiguring and updating Grub) should be necessary in Linux when, in Windows, it's as hard as clicking a "Hibernation" checkbox in the Power s...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
My last piece of advice. If you want to copy the entire disk, get a target drive large enough for the job. USB hard drives are absurdly cheap. Thing is: I'd never use it for anything else. I don't think one should need to go out and buy a 500 GB drive to make a compressed image (and that's the kind...

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard shortcut that types text
For anyone else seeing this---the procedure Nikolai5 describes is explained here in more detail: How to Add Custom Keyboard Shortcut to Paste a Predefined Text in Linux Mint That said, is there no way to use Cinnamon's existing "custom shortcut" feature (System Tools > Keyboard > Shortcuts...

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard shortcut that types text
Just wondering―is there a way to use Cinnamon's "custom shortcut" feature (System Tools > Keyboard > Shortcuts) to make shortcuts that type text? In my case, all I need are "hotkeys" to type four characters: ― ‒ • é ...which come up often in my work. I don't mind installing extra...

Last edited by SMG on Tue Apr 04... Reason: Moved from Other Topics to Chat about Linux Mint because this is not a request for help with a problem with Linux Mint. (At least I don't think it's a problem. ;) ) Oh good---I didn't realize there was a section for purely loony stuff. Was that completely...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
Well, I just spent a frustrating couple of hours trying to make a disk image (backup) of my SSD before I try to fix the partitioning. If you want insurance, the best form would be to copy or clone the system partition to USB drive. I use rsync, which is a command line tool that works nicely for me b...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
Oh, one more thing occurred to me, before I proceed with this (and I hope you're having at least a bit of fun here, considering how much of your time you're giving me): Though I do have a complete (and configured) Mint install on p4, as you can see, it'd easily fit into the unallocated space. If I f...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
So I understand that wherever you referred to "sda", I should type "nvme0n1". Mostly correct, with the nuance that it's nvme0n1p4 and so on. Right you are! Interesting how there's no p ( p artition) in "sda1", but there is in "nvme0np1". I assume someone felt...

Re: 3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
Hi linux-rox , Thanks for your kind reply—sure appreciate it! To avoid any confusion, I booted from my LM USB drive (yes, I kept it 😉 ) and took this GParted screenshot: GParted_screenshot.png As you can see, Mint's calling my SSD "/dev/nvme0n1"—because it uses a different type of disk por...

Re: Typos on LM "About" page
I like your wife. Yes, and it’s amazing she likes me anyway, ain’t it? 🤷 Question, what's worse than the grammar police? Answer, just about nothing. You probably meant “Answer: Just about nothing”, but I’m not going to say that as it’d be too, you know, spectrum-y. Yes, it must have been a slow day...

3 (well, 2½) GRUB questions
Hallo helpful chaps – I recently installed OSs in this order on my h/d: • Win 11 • [other Linux distro] • Mint After realizing how vastly superior Mint was to [other Linux distro], I wanted to remove [other Linux distro] and see if I could use that space for Mint instead. So, based on an authoritati...

Minty dreams?
Is it just me, or does anyone else dream about Mint? Last night I dreamt I was using an app called the Mint Upgrade Counsellor (Canadian spelling; adjust as desired). When you ran it, a white AI koala ( go figure 🤷♂️ ) appeared and discussed which parts of your Mint install you should upgrade. (Of ...
