Re: LVM boot issue

Your issue reminds me of a similar one I had a loooong while ago... IIRC, what was happening was a wrong disk enumeration order... and what fixed it was, boot with a LiveCD (SystemRescue is my all-time favorite), check the correct UUID for /home (Google for the right command), then go into fstab and...

Re: Disk images of LMDE

@Niks, since you haven't been very specific about your "not working" issues, I can only wonder, but I suspect your problems are not related at all to the backup or restore of images, but are coming solely from your GRUB setup. If I'm wrong on this guess, you'll have to be a bit more speci...

Re: Disk images of LMDE

@Niks take a look at http://clonezilla.org/ . AFAIK it's the most widely used Linux tool for backup & restore of disk images. I have personally made full-disk backups (of a Windoze 2-SSD and multi-partition netbook) and also partial-disk backups (of LMDE, installed on 3 partitions within a 10+-p...

Re: KDE 4.6.3 migrated to Testing

a LMDE KDE would/could be amazing, i think :) Well, one of the ideas I'm currently playing with is using Clonezilla to duplicate the partitions of my current LMDE-XFCE install (including of course the 600+ Mb of post-ISO updates), and activating another install where I'd start adding some KDE compo...

Re: Tip: Live USB of the Linux Mint XFCE Debian Edition 2011

Oi Renato, My experience has been almost the exact opposite of yours. I DID manage to boot LMDE-XFCE Live from an old 1 Gb pendrive using unetbootin with zero problems - mind you, with only 6 Mb of free space left on the stick afterwards. OTOH, before that I had no success with having it boo...

Re: KDE 4.6.3 migrated to Testing

Seems to be Clem's idea In June, the focus will shift towards LMDE which will receive the Mint 11 features, and for which we’re also planning specific improvements (particularly on the installer and the update manager), as well as the KDE and LXDE editions . http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1769 Well, ...

Re: grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Shiny and happy greetings to all... I'm happy to report that my GRUB issues are finally solved. Before I delve into the gory details, one small question begs to be asked first. @sumski: Take a look at the script i posted. Last command before the chroot one : Well, unless I got things all mixed up du...

Re: Mint Debian Live CD & USB hangs at Login on Samsung Q210

Well, I just followed a pointer from Dr. Hu at another topic, stating that this is the "official" topic for the "calculating file indexes" hanging issue. I just happened to solve this and would like to present my solution. The issue appeared on a LMDE-XFCE Live session, running f...

Re: grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Hi folks! @wayne128: grub1 is easy to understand and manage, change only one file, menu.lst So... I had been toying in my mind with an additional idea: remove grub2 and install grub-legacy. From what you've posted in this topic (and also on some other topics I've been browsing), I understand you kee...

Re: grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Hi all, done some of my planned tests - findings follow. 1. trying to boot Mint's LiveCD with option ''toram=filesystem.squashfs". I understand that this option, if indeed workable, will allow me to remove the pendrive from which Mint Live is booting from. This is currently /dev/sdc. At this po...

Re: grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Hi all again... I took a long while for coming back... Well, first of all many thanks to everybody for all the helpful input. @sumski: I've checked your 3...

Re: grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Thx sumski, Can you see your usb disk/partition from grub shell? Well, my knowledge of grub is a bit shallow, and even more so with grub2. What I DID find under 'grub shell' for grub2 so far has been quite misleading, such as these two examples: - - - - The powerful grub shell has been removed. - - ...

grub blues - LMDE USB-to-USB install

Hi all, I'm having some issues with GRUB when installing LMDE, most likely due to the tricky setup I'm using. Hope someone could throw some helpful tips in here... I'm using an EEE 901 netbook, with no HD and two SSD's. That would be sda with 4 Gb (Windows installed), and sdb with 16 Gb with a numbe...

Re: Mint-Server down for updates?

It seems people are opening various threads on different forums about update issues and getting the standard response, "switch your mirrors". I made a post at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=57482&p=344896#p344896 explaining the details on my end and why switching...

Re: Mintupdate

Well, at least on my end, switching mirrors does NOT solve the issue.

Would you pls take a look at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 96#p344896 for full details.

Cheers

Well I just made another post regarding server downtime, before seeing this other topic.

As it seems, this one here was a former occurrence, as the link given above by clem has been removed.
