Re: Xfce + Update Pack 5: GDM3 wants unnecessary packages

Hi Gene. Thanks for the reply.

My LMDE+Xfce came with MDM when I first installed it. It's weird that all gnome dependencies claimed to be installed. I checked and GDM3 is not installed at all in my system.

Re: Xfce + Update Pack 5: GDM3 wants unnecessary packages

I'm having the same problem in my LMDE+Xfce

I still haven't upgraded because it wants to install lots of gnome extra stuff that I don't think I need (i.e. gnome-shell).

Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks!

Re: Fonts after upgrade

I want to thank Monsta for the work as well. I confirm that it is working for my LMDE+Xfce!! (I had to restart for the changes to take effect) The only difference is that I specified the absolute path when creating the symbolic links, for example: ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-antialias.conf /etc/f...

Re: Fonts after upgrade

Hi.

Is there a fix or a workaround available to make the fonts look better?
After the upgrade I noticed that the fonts don't look good.

Customize login window in Cinnamon

Hi there.

I just installed the lmde 201204RC and started using Cinnamon and I have to say that it rocks!

Is there some way to customize the login window? (change font size, colors, etc.)

Thanks a lot!

Any alternative to NCP Secure Entry Client for VPN?

Hi there. I'll start working in a project where the use of a software called NCP Secure Entry Client for VPN (only available for Windows and Mac) is mandatory. Is there some alternative of that software that could run on my LMDE? For the life of me, I don't want to switch to Windows :) Thanks in adv...

Obsolete packages newer than Latest repo. What should I do?

Hi there. First of all, I'm really happy to know that now we have these two latest and incoming mint repos. Great work. Today I pointed my repos to Latest and then did an apt-get update. I haven't upgraded yet, as I always like to open Synaptic and take a sneak peek about the upgrades. This time , a...

Re: Which Mint is lighter, Fluxbox or LXDE?

This thread takes me to another question: Does Chrome, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. use less memory resources in a Fluxbox version than in a Gnome version?
Are those applications resources dependent on the Desktop Environment used?

Cheers

Re: Which Mint is lighter, Fluxbox or LXDE?

Yep. Hoping to have a preliminary build up for initial testing at some point in the next week. Wow! Those are really great news! I think I will wait for the LMDE+Fluxbox as I really prefer a Debian based distro. Meanwhile, I'll have to tune up my system, looking for lighter applications and wait wi...

Hey. I really appreciate your replies! that is helping me a lot to decide ;) I'll share the specs of the laptop and look forward to your comments: It's an IBM Thinkpad T40, Pentium-M 1.5Ghz, 512MB, 40GB Hard Disk. Two months ago I installed Mint LMDE+Gnome on it, and, for example, having 1 nautilus ...

Start a program into another virtual desktop

Hi there. In a Linux Mint 11, Is there a way to start a program from the command line and put it into another virtual desktop? I need to start a program when the computer boots, so I added the command to the list at: Preferences -> Startup programs. Now it starts correctly, but I would like it to st...

Re: Latest update breaks my skype audio

Thanks for your reply yuniko.

I removed skype and removed my .Skype folder that is within my home folder, reinstalled and the problem persisted.
So, I started looking for the 2.1.0.81 version in order to downgrade skype. Fortunately I did found that version and the audio problem is gone :)

Re: Latest update breaks my skype audio

Thanks for your help Lauren. I did the steps of the audio section on the link you provided (some of them didn't apply to my sound card) but the problem persisted. A very curious thing was that if I use another skype account that I own, the problem doesn't occur at all. So, for the sake of a test, I ...

Latest update breaks my skype audio

Hi there. After updates of June 15 2011 Skype was updated to version 2.2.0.35 and my Skype audio is not working anymore. This is what I'm doing: 1. Open Skype options and do the test call. 2. The test call works properly. 3. Close options window. 4. Reopen options window. 5. Do a test call again. 6....
