Re: The unofficial LMDE Xfce UP6 SR1

@widget I started using the launchers in the panel but quickly got tired of having to build them with each fresh install and noticed that xfce unlike the other desktops allowed you to have more than one menu so I ended up creating my own nearly 2 years ago and I've been using them ever since, a perf...

Re: The unofficial LMDE Xfce UP6 SR1

Talking about panels these are mine and I prefer 4.8 as I think the columns option in 4.10 is a work in progress. Above the dotted separator are the windows button and below are 3 custom menus that live in a folder on my data partition with a sym link to "/home/ukbrian/menus" so all the OS...

Re: The unofficial LMDE Xfce UP6 SR1

I have for the last 4+ years been keeping a directory in my home directory that is just such kind of info. Several sub directories give me pretty good access to the information on a number of Linux subjects. Grub, terminal commands, useful files (guess where that info went) and so on. A lot would p...

Re: The unofficial LMDE Xfce UP6 SR1

Hi Brian. Long time... Nice to see another XFCE fan here... :wink: Hi Gene Yea, I can't see me leaving Xfce I'm liking all the improvements that have been added during the last 2 years. I'm still using my xfce custom menus that live on my data partition, it's been 2 years now and I still love them....

Re: The unofficial LMDE Xfce UP6 SR1

Best Wheezy I've tried so far, well done! Running on an AMD 4 core desktop With a fresh install and immediately installing the PAE kernel when I boot up after selecting in the grub menu and before the login screen I get this error process(283) Glib-warning getpwuid-r() failed due to unknown user id ...

Love what you have created, works a treat :D

It might be worth sending a PM to altair4 http://forums.linuxmint.com/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=13628 about your samba problems

@lkraemer
Thank you for you're response :D
I'll have to email him but I'm a bit busy at the moment

I use custom menus in Xfce that are stored on a data partition and wondered if menu-props allowed you to point at the menu you wanted to edit.

Re: howto modify xfce start/menu program list

Thanks for the link and I'd love to try this out but I get this error using Debian stable and Xfce user@salineos:~/menuprops3.0.1$ ./menuprops (Menu Props): Loading main script locally... RuntimeError: Bad magic number in .pyc file user@salineos:~/menuprops3.0.1$ Is email the only way to communicate...

Re: Settings Menu entries

If those two didn't work try removing the other ones one at a time but log out-in after doing the changes.
I don't touch the regular menu, I made up my own custom menus 18 months ago and just copy them into a new install.

Re: Settings Menu entries

Have a go at the categories= bit Try removing "Settings" first, if you add an extra line underneath with a "#" Original Categories=X-XFCE;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XfceSettingsDialog; Modified Categories=X-XFCE;DesktopSettings;X-XfceSettingsDialog; #Settings; If that fails try t...

Re: Status of XFCE in Debian/Ubuntu

GeneC You should have no problem in SolusOS 1 or 2(Wheezy) with XFCE I hope your right Ikey is using Gnome 3 in his Alpha Wheezy version does that make a difference? as it's quite important to my long term thinking. I went looking for another desktop when testing came out of the freeze 18 months ag...

Thanks for the info friend, I guess that means Xfce won't run on SolusOS 2 only SolusOS 1, that's bad news I only enjoy using Xfce the others annoy me.
How many Xfce OS's do you run?

Re: Nautilus starts every bootup and Desktop reverts

I use a NTFS partition for all my data, the partition has a label off "500-data".
I created a folder in my user folder called "500-data"
I add this line to my fstab

Code: Select all

LABEL=500-data       /home/user/500-data   ntfs-3g  defaults,uid=1000         0      0

so no need for nautilus

You are free to do whatever you want of course but all of my systems are multiuser and I have one partition for the OS that contains all of those directories ( / ), a swap partition, and a /Data partition.
It's your data that's irreplaceable you can always replace/reinstall the OS

Re: [Solved]LMDE Xfce based on Debian Testing

Thanks for the help. What I'm doing is trying to get a smaller size for qt4-fsarchiver restore CD. I didn't do the updates as they increase the size quite a lot so I just installed MDM and Xfce4 and rebooted successfully into Xfce and that saved about 40 MB of compressed space compared to what I did...

Re: Backup/Restore Partitions with qt4-fsarchiver HowTo

I've done a new restore ISO with the latest qt4-fsarchiver at Restore ISO There's been over 100 downloads, there's been over 20 this month already, it seems to be getting more popular. I've tried to make the new ISO more multi language but qt4-fsarchiver itself only does German, Russian and English.
