Re: [SOLVED] updatedb to locate

Your solution did the trick for me. The only thing I changed was to tie the partition to 'home' to enable 'updatedb' and 'locate' to work searching it. I went with ntfs instead of ntfs-3g. My impression is that ntfs-3g is the latest version but so far ntfs seems to do the job. Here is what the final...

Re: [SOLVED] updatedb to locate

OK, so locate works great now, but the owner of everything in Common is root and that does me no good at all. How do I change that? 'chown' doesn't seem to do the trick.

This is what the blkid command got me: Note that /dev/sda10: is the one I wanted to access. sudo blkid /dev/sda1: SEC_TYPE="msdos" LABEL="DELLUTILITY" UUID="3030-3030" TYPE="vfat" PARTUUID="b3a6f9a5-01" /dev/sda2: LABEL="RECOVERY" UUID="94AA2A65AA2A43D8" TYPE="ntfs" PARTUUID="b3a6f9a5-02" /dev/sda3:...

[SOLVED] updatedb to locate

This is a somewhat general Linux question and I haven't been able to resolve it with searches. I have a separate NTFS partition named 'Common' that is accessible by both Win7 and Mint. I would like to be able to use the 'locate' command to search this partition along with my /home partition. I see w...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

Thoroughly agree with the two previous posters. I continued from my last post and just tried to install wine32. It indicated 89 additional packages would be installed and had a large list of Recommended and Suggested packages. Went ahead and installed wine32 and started into the Recommended list. Th...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

What happened when you did "[sudo] apt install wine" ? Exactly the same as trusarang indicated but with the additional requirements of installing mono and gecko twice. Your answer is completely mysterious; for one, I don't see that trusarang ever entered that exact command in this thread. TJMcK typ...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

I am hoping that Mint will re-establish the simplicity of using "apt install wine" as it has for previous versions. What happened when you did "[sudo] apt install wine" ? Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

trusarang: that sequence is one that I found but it just seemed to add to the mess I was in. Could be that one of these suggestions by itself (without any of the other suggestions) would do the trick. Let me and others know if any one of them works out for you and what you installed and got working ...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

Previous sequence was one of the sequences I went through, but it didn't work - nothing showed up in the menu and couldn't come up with a command line entry that would start or config wine. Of course, like I said in the first post, laptop is thoroughly bollixed up and fresh install has been done. Aw...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

Thank you for the suggestions. However; I am hoping that Mint will re-establish the simplicity of using "apt install wine" as it has for previous versions. Otherwise, it seems to turn the release into a 'hobby' rather than the sophisticated Linux it has always been.

Wine install Mint 19 Mate

Did a complete wipe of /home and / partitions and a fresh install of Mint 19 Mate on two different laptops. Tried to install Wine using various suggestions on one of the laptops and it still doesn't work. (Neither of these laptops did the 'upgrade' option.) Am I to understand that the Mint repositor...

Re: LMDE 2 and NitroShare

Appreciate the suggestions. However; none of them worked. I went to the author of NitroShare and he came up with the attached method that should work for just about anyone. I had already reached my threshold of frustration and dumped LMDE 2 and went back to Mint XFCE 32-bit, but this email from the ...

Re: LMDE 2 and NitroShare

That site suggests "sudo apt-add-repository ppa:....." which I said in my post is rejected because LMDE2 Mate doesn't allow adding a ppa.

[SOLVED?] LMDE 2 and NitroShare

Just installed LMDE 2 on an older laptop and attempted to install NitroShare. It is not in the repository and seems adding PPAs is not supported.

Any way to get it?

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 copy photos changes date to current. [SOLVED]

Sorry for the delay in responding to this. My resolution is simply to drop CAJA and install NEMO with the 'nemo-media-columns' package. This gives me the ability to add several different EXIF columns to the display (sadly lacking in CAJA). The primary problem was the inability to keep edited photos ...

Re: Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:631.

Found fix in a bug report. Seems CUPS has a bad mix of old and/or missing modules and a total refresh using the following 3 steps provides a fix ...... it did for me. sudo dpkg -P --force-depends libcups2 cups-bsd cups-client cups-daemon libcups2:i386 libcupscgi1 libcupsmime1 libcupsimage2 libcupspp...

[SOLVED] Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:631.

Subject line indicates the problem. Fresh install of 18.2 XFCE and attempting to configure local (wireless) printer. http://localhost:631 is supposed to get me to the start of the CUPS configurations. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When it does, I get part way through adding the printer an...

Works great with fresh .config directory! Now gonna chase what caused the problem by adding items slowly from the .config_backup directory. The 'new' .config directory contained: Directories: caja dconf gedit mate mintmenu Files: user-dirs.dirs user-dirs.locale Replaced each of these one at a time f...
