Re: Changing OS boot order
Thanks for that - should have waited for your response and saved some time. Figured it out. Here is the step-by-step solution. My selections for booting are: *Linux Mint 21.1 Mate Advanced Options for Linux Mint 21.1 Mate Windows 10 (on /dev/sda1) (That asterisk shows which of the three is the defau...

Re: Changing OS boot order
Just checked with gparted and the SDA2 partition is a partition 'EFI' with 640K used. Could be Windows is using it.
Is there a way to get Mint to use it?

EFI variables are not supported on this system.
Any other options? (EFI not on any of my machines.)

Changing OS boot order [SOLVED]
I am running Mate 21.1 and Windows 10 on my laptop. Win 10 is used once a year to run a tax program that doesn't run under Linux. Unfortunately, after sitting idle for a year, Win 10 has many updates and reboots multiple times. I allow the updates and when I come back to the laptop I find it sitting...

Re: Opensnitch on Mint Mate 21
Found the solution on github: First step was to go to github and download the 1.5.2-1 packages and install them. Fix provided by gustavo-iniguez-goya: sudo apt install python3-pip python3-pyasn pip3 install --user qt-material pip3 install --user --ignore-installed grpcio Correct icon now appears and...

[SOLVED] Opensnitch on Mint Mate 21
I had opensnitch working on all the laptops in the house using Mint Mate 20.3 with no problems at all. After upgrading on two different laptops (upgrade, not fresh install)to Mate 21 opensnitch doesn't work properly. It seems to be active per htop and top, but the icon for it appears as a wi-fi icon...

Re: Slow Boot - was OK until recently
The part I need to fix the Dell laptop that had the failure will be a month coming from China. I moved the drive into a ThinkPad (same problem showed up). Then I entered sudo sed -i 's/996d43dc-adc1-403b-a395-f327930320f9/47254cd6-679e-4c99-8edc-ee9b9db2b882/g' /etc/fstab as you suggested and the hu...

Re: Slow Boot - was OK until recently
You are correct. I created the Swap partition after the installation. Never noticed the difference in the UUID. I suspect you are correct in that it is the problem; however, I cannot test for that at the moment. I mentioned earlier that my touchpad wasn't working. Last evening I took the laptop apar...

Re: Slow Boot - was OK until recently
Is there a UUID assigned to the touchpad? I can't find any reference to it. Am going to step away and boot Mate 20.2 from live USB to note any difference. Mike Took 19 seconds to boot from USB3. Of course, the touchpad still doesn't work for whatever reason. Dinner guests arriving. Will continue lat...

Re: Slow Boot - was OK until recently
Seems pretty basic to me. Don't remember why the "errors=remount-ro" entry was made Mike # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices # that works ev...

[SOLVED] Slow Boot - was OK until recently
Had not restarted this laptop for some time. When I finally did a restart, it took 2:16 minutes to come up to the log in prompt. This laptop had normally booted in just a few seconds. I tried some of the recommended checks and cannot interpret the systemd outputs. Can someone please deciper and expl...

Re: PDF download problem
OK. The above responses seem to indicate it is a problem in my setup somewhere. Only thing common to all the machines that are failing seems to be the router. First thing I did was turn the firewall in the router to its lowest setting. - no change Clock in the router was set to Central time differen...
